    Washington vs legend Cob

I stopped by the factory this past Wednesday. They have a pleasant little shop with some displays of historical stuff and a wall of their full line of products, including some exclusive pipes (basically remainders from small runs). I managed to snag a tin of GL Pease Westminster from 2020 for...

    Washington vs legend Cob

The hardwood plug is there to prevent burning out the bottom of the bowl, which can (and does, per my experience) happen on the smaller bowls. The stems are all made from a lighter (less dense) wood that will char and burn away somewhat with multiple smokes, but the hardwood plug is sturdier and...

    Cobb Repair

I use Elmer’s white glue, but I have heard that Elmer’s wood glue is the better choice, so I may pick some of that up when future repairs call for it.

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

A tin that the original purchaser bought in 2001, so it's at least that old. Managed to snag it for $29, an absolute steal in my book.

    Howdy!

Welcome! You have some experience that I haven’t yet gained, I have only made home blends using already-cut base tobaccos. A few of my blends are good enough to get me through, but someday I plan to go the whole leaf route!

    Hello From Oregon!

Greetings from a fellow northwesterner, currently in exile in northern Indiana! Where in Oregon are you? Portland has a few excellent tobacconists, before I moved away I used to frequent Rich’s and Cascade Cigar, both of which I miss terribly as there are no B&M shops within 90 miles of me now!

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

Had my first-ever bowl of C&D Bayou Nights in a Bishop & Knight clay. It was spicy and flavorful without bite, which I appreciated as I managed to obliterate my tongue on Saturday evening with a bowl of SWR Aromatic, and had to lay off the pipe for a day to recover!

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

I appreciate the offer, but that was a tinbids.com purchase and I’ll be keeping it! On the other hand, if any of you fine folks happen to find yourself in South Bend for a Notre Dame game sometime, PM me and I’ll be happy to share a bowl or two!

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

So true! I should add that all of these are yet sealed tins, I have a serious supply of jarred blends that I am working on depleting before I open another tin! Just don’t ask my bride what she thinks about my little hobby. She rivals my collection with her scraps of quilting fabric!

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

    Collecting Ethos

I wouldn't consider myself a collector of pipes, though I do have about 20 or so. As my little assortment has grown, I've discovered that pipes I bought at the start no longer appeal to me, now that I've learned more about smoking and can see the shortcomings of my collection. For example, I...

    New to Forum; Hello!

Greetings from northern Indiana! As an amateur beverage consumer, I am particularly interested in what your range of spirits entails. What do you sell the most of? What do you most like to make for yourself and friends? I am big on rums currently, but have an extensive collection of absinthe as...

    Turkish Latakia v. Cyprian Latakia

I will agree, Jim's 2-star review gave me pause, but I was able to snag 2 tins of SPC Wild Man for $10 each, and at about half-price from the going rate, I consider it worth a try. IIRC JimInks's low rating was due not so much to the type of Latakia in the blend (he refers specifically to...

9mm Charcol Filters vs Meerschaum Throwdown

That tiny size difference is shockingly important. I attempted to install a 9mm->3mm filter adapter into a pipe of mine, and cracked the shank when inserting the stem, as it was ever-so-slightly larger than 8.8mm. It wasn't a pipe that I smoked regularly, but losing it still makes me sad...
