***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

Had my first bowl ever of Captain Earle’s Ten Russians this evening, in a Mastersen Freehand army mount. Had some RL Seale Barbados rum, a little English Teatime tea, and water to accompany. The tobacco was truly delicious, though I will say that the nic-hit was far less than I had been led to...

    Yum Sweet Corn

Correct. I usually do 2 ears for 6 minutes, 3 for 8min, and 4 for 10min. We have a fairly weak microwave, though, so adjust as necessary.

    Tobaccos With A Nic Hit?

I had a bowl of G&H Kendal Kentucky tonight and it provided a nice amount of Vitamin N along with quite a bit of spice on the tongue (not bite, but pepperiness). The fine (almost shag) cut made it easy to load, though I had also dried it out for a few hours prior to smoking. I also had a bowl...

    Yum Sweet Corn

I’m in Indiana, where sweet corn is abundant and cheap. I’ve taken to cooking it in the microwave - cook a single unshucked cob for 3 to 4 minutes on high power on a plate or just the built-in rotator tray. Let rest for a few minutes to cool, then slice off the non-silk end about a half-inch up...

***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

A bowl of G&H Kendal Kentucky in a MM Country Gentleman, followed by a bowl of HH Rustica Ready Rubbed in a OD Virginia Planter (see my other thread for the sad tale of splitting the stem in the Planter). A lovely evening with a high nic-hit!

Help! Replacement Reed stem for Virginia Planter Cob

So I managed to somehow split the reed stem on my (fairly new) Virginia Planter cob pipe from Missouri Meerschaum/Old Dominion. Does anyone know of a replacement stem source?

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

A load of Captain Earle blends to try, along with the (deeply discounted, like $5) 2023 Cringle Flake, and my very first Morgan Bones, a big bent apple with p-lip stem. Can’t wait to break it in and then try a bowl of Ten Russians!

Jim's Drucquer & Sons Rule Britannia Review.

I did it, bought a tin after reading this review. Should arrive on Monday along with tins of Trafalgar, Casbah, and Blairgowrie. Thanks for the notes, Jim!

How Does One Purchase From PipeStud?

I so wish I hadn’t have seen this thread and been reminded of pipestud’s existence. I already have TAD, and now i have access to another dealer?!?!

***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

I broke in a new MM Emerald with some Royal Yacht last evening, accompanied by a root beer & bourbon highball.

***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

Had my first bowl ever of SPC Mississippi River Special Reserve Flake in a bishop & knight clay. The tin was compromised upon arrival and had dried out to crispy, so I crumbled up a bowlful and rehydrated by exhaling into the bowl. That seemed to do the trick, as the smoke was delicious - piney...

    Tobaccos With A Nic Hit?

I’m shocked it took so long to see Ten Russians mentioned. I haven’t yet had it (my tin is waiting for me at home at the end of this road trip), but I read a review by Miyanovich on TR that sent me to order the tin immediately, to wit: “Yesterday, I was feeling my oats. I bought a tin of...

Looking for a Pipes and Philosophy Group

I listened to the BBC Radio productions of all of the Sherlock Holmes stories last month, about 48.5 hours’ worth of entertainment, while smoking my pipe. It was the perfect companion. I usually listen to books, mostly fiction, though I have also enjoyed some of The Great Courses series. I’m...

***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

I’ve been on a family road trip since last Tuesday, and brought a pouch of Sutliff Medium English and a jarred tin of Peterson Sherlock Holmes, along with a large-bowled army mount and a basket pipe, both of which I knew could handle the rough treatment of travel. I mentioned in another thread...

    Suprise!!!

Pipesandcigars sells a 16-oz bagged version of this, “Best of the Rest”. They have an aro version and an English version, and it’s cheap as chips - like $14.99 currently. My plan is to get four pounds of the English, blend it all together for consistency, and then use that as the base for some...

Looking for a Pipes and Philosophy Group

I used to work at University of Portland, and knew a few fellow pipers among the faculty and staff, but most of them are now retired. Certainly there must be a few down at Willamette, much nearer to you, OP.

Just don’t get brought up on charges of corrupting the youth. Hemlock is pretty bitter, I hear tell.

Ruminations on Keeping Cheap Shag Tobacco Humidified

I’m not aiming to get into a politics conversation, but can you explain your last sentence for me? How does increasing taxes play into Big Tobacco’s happiness? (Setting aside the question of who exactly you mean by “Big Tobacco,” when even the pipe tobacco market has two or three behemoths and...
