9mm Charcol Filters vs Meerschaum Throwdown

Have you tried the White Elephant "SuperMix" filters? They are a blend of meerschaum chips and activated charcoal, supposedly providing the benefits of both. I bought a box but haven't yet tried them myself, as the only 9mm filter pipe I have is not in my regular rotation. Perhaps I'll load a...

VaPer Blend + Dark Kentucky Suggestions

Newminster Superior Round Slices #403 is an excellent vaper with DFK, especially if you can get a little age on it. Buy 8oz and set most of it aside for 6mos, and thank yourself later.

    What Hearts Are For

Reading this brought back all of my memories of the last month with our senior dog Phil, who we lost 20 months ago after 12.5 years. It’s so hard, and time will make it better, but damn if I’m not sitting on the patio, typing this through a stream of tears. My prayers are with you as you grieve.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

A bowl of Kentucky Cowboy Coffee, a house blend I made of Brookfield Black Bourbon 1:1 with CS Cowboy Coffee, topped with Old Crow bourbon then pressed into a krumble kake and aged for 6 weeks. Smoked in a rusticated billiard, accompanied with a mug of Maxwell House.

A Little Humor for the Day

I think I may be smoking too much, because this landscaping bark looked to me like a tasty ready-rubbed DFK.

    Turkish Latakia v. Cyprian Latakia

Well shoot, now I'm sad I didn't order a tin of Horizons with my last order to give it a try! Next time.

    Breaking in a Cob.

There's not a "break-in period" like you will find with a briar, but the first few smokes may be a bit rough as you burn away the portion of the wooden shank that extends into the bowl. It's just wood that you're burning, so it's not toxic or bad, just not 100% tobacco. After a few smokes (3-5...

    Sunday Surprise

That is good to know, I am in South Bend and have been planning a trip down to Riegel's sometime soon, but Sundays usually work better for me. We don't have any B&Ms nearby, Fort Wayne is the closest, and I'm glad to know there are more than one option.

    GLP Must Have Blends

At least one of my GLP tins is slightly bowed out at the bottom, I can tell because it doesn't sit flush when I stack it. I know tobacco ferments in the tin, so my hope is that is what is causing it. I guess I will open it up sooner rather than later and settle the question. A practical...

    GLP Must Have Blends

This terrifies me. I have just a few GLP (and C&D) tins in my cellar, but golly I’d hate to discover that they’ve gone moldy before I got to open and enjoy them.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

Just finished a bowl of C&D Epiphany in a large-bowled army-mount bent briar. A pleasant smoke, which I am happy to report as this morning I ordered 4oz more of the blend. Before that, I enjoyed a bowl of 2019 vintage Sutliff Victorian Mixture (Dunhill Elizabethan Blend match) in my Bishop &...

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

Visited Pipe Puffers in Greenwood, IN this morning, and found a treasure trove of GLP tins with some age. Odyssey from 2020, Sixpence ‘21, Gaslight ‘22, and Spark Plug and Triple Play from ‘23. Picked up an estate pipe that was, if not unsmoked, at least only minimally smoked for $40. Enjoyed a...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

Okay, having now finished a bowl of Sutliff #502 Medium English smoked for the first time in the pictured MM Morgan, I can say that it appears that this blend does not present well in my Falcon Meerschaum. In the cob it was much more pleasant, giving the latakia-smoky & lightly soapy notes (both...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

I had a bowl of Sutliff #502 Medium English in a Falcon affixed with a block meerschaum bowl. I can't say that this pouch has produced any good smokes yet; I get a sour bitterness that isn't terribly appealing or tasty, though so far I've only tried it in this particular pipe, and for the next...

    Arlington Pipe & Cigar (Chicago)

I don't suppose you saw any Robert McConnell tins in stock there? I am seeking a source for McConnell Heritage Series Barking Road, but danged if I can find a ships-within-or-to-the-USA vendor. Please note, I am not writing a WTB post with this comment, just looking for a pointer to a...

    Arlington Pipe & Cigar (Chicago)

Thanks for the heads-up, I’ll have to make a trip to visit! (A 90-min drive from South Bend, maybe a bit more, but as I have no local B&M, pilgrimages are something I am willing to do!)

OTC Burley Blends with Perique, Picayune Esque?

I just got a bag of D&R Two Timer (well, it was sold as D&R, but the bag actually reads “2 Daughters,” perhaps since Mark Ryan has sold D&R to focus on perique production?). Anyhow, Two Timer is an *very* affordable all-burley double-toasted blend that has some nice flavor. I use it as the...

    Hello, Also from Colorado

Welcome from northern Indiana! The closest I get to herbal blends is a touch of deertongue in things like C&D’s Crooner blend, but I hope you’ll find this to be a lovely forum for conversation!

Hello Just Joined Today. First Post.

Greetings from northern Indiana! I own no Petersons except many tins of their brand tobacco so I have nothing to contribute to the question, but welcome!
