    Supporting Local Shops

Ideally a local B&M for me would be a welcoming place to smoke and hang out, especially when the weather is too awful to sit on the patio. But as it is, there’s not really much with a non-vape focus within a 90-minute drive of me. I went in to the single local store that advertises itself as a...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

A little Peterson Sherlock Holmes in a large-bowled army-mount pipe with a glass of Madeira to finish the evening. A fantastic combo!

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

A bowl of C&D Crooner (my first ever!) in a clay, which I tend to use for the first taste of new-to-me blends. A very, very different smoke than I’ve ever had before, but I liked it!

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

That is good to hear. As I said, I'm going to put the jar at the back of my shelf for a few months before revisiting, but I'll definitely dry for a few hours (or overnight) when I do finally load another bowl. I want to like it, I find Sutliff's VA Slices to be delicious, and have high hopes for...

    Hello from Colorado

Welcome from a relative newbie to the forum in Indiana! I’ll be visiting your fair square state at the end of the month, looking forward to seeing real mountains again!

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

I also had my first bowl of Sutliff 707 a few nights ago and it was quite a rough smoke, really hot and not really great. I set it aside in the jar to revisit after a few months, and I’ll definitely try drying it for a lot longer than I did this last time.

What Are You Listening To - July, 2024

For me it’s all about the audiobook while enjoying a pipe, and there’s little better than Conan Doyle.

Taking A Pipe Break For Three Days

Is it possible that some of your blends are ending up out of balance in regards to alkalinity/acidity? I was reading the blending book linked in another thread on the forum, and the author has a whole section on tongue bite (on page 14), explaining that it is partially attributed to the...

    Greetings from Northern Indiana

Will do - I have some pressed cakes of various iterations of MYOTT that have rested for several weeks now and are ready to be sliced and smoked, I just need the weather to cooperate so that I can sit outside in order to do so. It rained like I should've been building an ark these past two days...

What's Similar to Newminster 400 SNF or HH Virginia Flake?

To my knowledge, most folks keep sealed tins unopened and as-is until opening to smoke. As I mentioned, though, some tins that are known to be unreliable (as mentioned, Samuel Gawith is specifically called out, I've heard of other manufacturers who don't seal very well either due to inability or...

What's Similar to Newminster 400 SNF or HH Virginia Flake?

I store the tins as-is only until I open it, then the contents go straight into a mason jar. Word is that an opened round tin should keep your tobacco moist for about a month or so, but I have yet to smoke a full tin in that timeframe as I move among my various blends, so I jar the blend as soon...

My First Mix Update - The Mixmasters Were Absolutely Right

Will do. I snagged a bag on cigarbid today for $7, so I look forward to doing some experimenting!

    Your Own "Best" Tobacco

Right now, I'd go with MyMixture 965, though I could also happily settle for Sutliff English Oriental #400341. It's that fantastic aromatic crossover that just hits the right spots for me.

My First Mix Update - The Mixmasters Were Absolutely Right

Well, you got me, I ordered a bag of the Smoker's Pride Whisky to see for myself. It's cheap as chips, so what do I have to lose?

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

I have a shipment coming from cigarbid.com, where I went a bit overboard this past week. Balkan Sasieni, MyMixture 965, Irish Cask, Irish Flake, Irish Whiskey, Nightcap, Royal Yacht, Standard Mixture, University Flake, John Cotton Double Pressed Latakia, Orlik Golden Sliced, Viprati, and some...
