    TAD Acquisitions 2024

A delightfully fast delivery from Estervals in Germany to the Midwest USA today. Placed the order on Wednesday afternoon! Some HU blends, a Solani, a Bill Bailey Balkan pouch, and some Robert McConnells that have been out of stock in the USA forever. Looking forward to cracking some tins...

    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

I must say that I am incredibly surprised at the number of folks who’ve mentioned throwing tobacco away. I would never do that. Just give it to someone else whose taste buds may appreciate it. I guess it’s another sign that we’re living in a “throwaway culture,” as the former Argentinian Jorge...

***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

Posts like this are why I read nearly everything in this insanely long thread. Your theory would explain why nearly no one (certainly not home blenders) have been able to reproduce RY successfully, as we don’t have access to actual perique juice. It would be quite interesting to see if you’re...

***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

My first taste of Boswell Northwoods in an estate lovat. This is a seriously tasty smoke with a lovely room note. I’d already tried and enjoyed Military Force, I’d say Northwoods is just a little less sweet and more piney. Very delicious and well worth keeping in stock.

    Peter Marshall, A Great Run

Sometimes it’s nice to have someone with experience. My hope is that he rest in the bosom of 60 virgins and 12 worldly ladies.

How Biased Are Pipe Tobacco Reviews

I dunno about how helpful they are about nicotine levels. I was reading through the reviews of some Captain Earle blends yesterday, and on back-to-back reviews there was a claim that a particular blend was high in nicotine, while the next said it was a mild hit. The same for claims of...

    PipesAndCigars.Com: Are They Trustworthy?

For reference, I placed orders yesterday afternoon with both smokingpipes and pipesandcigars. Smokingpipes sent me an email last night that my items had shipped. Still waiting to see a notification from P&C. By the way, it’s also important to note that P&C is owned by Scandinavian Tobacco...

    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

I have nearly 400 blends in my cellar, and always get new blends to try with every order, for sure. I sought out Old Gowrie because it was billed as a similar blend to one of my favorites, the polarizing Royal Yacht. The OG tin note showed some similarities, but definitely a lot...

    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

I had two bowls of Old Gowrie yesterday in two different pipes, and was surprised at how much I did not enjoy it. The tin note was interesting and inviting, smelled a bit like prune juice, so I was primed for a sweet and lovely smoke. I dried out a healthy pinch or two (the tin was quite moist)...

    All these years, missing out

I recently received a package of 5 mixed open tins that a fella on Facebook had tried a bowl or two out of each and decided he didn't like, so he sold them off for cheap ($5 each): Escudo, Rattray's Old Gowrie, Peterson Sherlock Holmes, Peterson Irish Cask, and SPC Seattle Evening. An absolute...

    All these years, missing out

I like the Sutliff match, but I also tried Hearth & Home's Daybreak, and found that when I mix the two 50:50, it's perfect. Daybreak is drier, almost too dry, whereas Sunrise is slightly too moist, so the two together make a lovely match when allowed to rest a few days.

    PipesAndCigars.Com: Are They Trustworthy?

I have had good experience with P&C, even when I've had slight issues with my order. Just know that their online tracking system is shite, and in order to get customer service you need to call rather than rely on their online form. For the record, I also order regularly from forum sponsors...

    Show Off Your Chimneys

I bought this MM General specifically to smoke Virginias, as that's the common understanding that I have heard: Virginias smoke better in a taller pipe like a chimney.

Help! Replacement Reed stem for Virginia Planter Cob

Quick update: I emailed Missouri Meerschaum yesterday and they just let me know they're sending a replacement bamboo stem. They also wrote, "Since we do custom fit the stems to the bowl, you may have to do a little modifying to get it to fit properly. We use a white glue similar to Elmer’s glue...

    Tobaccos With A Nic Hit?

As I mentioned when I posted the excerpt from the Ten Russians review last week, I had not yet smoked the blend myself. I have now had two bowls on successive nights, and I can say that while it is a very delicious and über-smoky Latakia bomb, I did not experience the nicotine rush that reviewer...

    Turkish Latakia v. Cyprian Latakia

I just realized that I scored on tin bids a sealed 2001 tin of C&D Longevity, a light/medium Balkan blend that features Syrian Latakia. I know that the peak flavor probably went barreling over the hill long ago, but as this is my one guaranteed chance to taste Syrian Latakia, I'll be grateful...

How Does One Purchase From PipeStud?

I picked up some 2013 vintage Samuel Gawith Skiff Mixture and Commonwealth tins that my bride informs me that I *did not need*. Can't wait for them to arrive!

    Coating for Clay Pipe Bit?

I've never cleaned any of my clay pipes (I have 4 or so) more than giving them a swish out with a pipe cleaner after a bowl and running the occasional thin pipe cleaner or a dedicated piece of stiff wire down the stem to remove any stray dottle. I suppose some day I'll make a fire in the...

    Coating for Clay Pipe Bit?

I used heat shrink tubing, but I’ve also seen folks applying nail polish to the end. Beeswax sounds interesting, I may try that with my next clay…
