    The Most Disappointing Tobacco

Erinmore. Certainly not like the older stuff. Escudo of course. Jackknife plug, Britts Balkan, and Weybridge. Best Brown left me cold. Anything that’s really bad I just add a bunch of BCA.

    Have You Found "Your Blend"?

I really like Hearth and Home Anniversary Kake, and my go to GL Pease is Sextant. Aeros - Blood Red Moon and Autumn EveNing.

Can We Talk About Water Glass (Sodium Silicate)?

Great thread, and I’ve heard about the application. It’s certainly a professional restoration technique. Ive had very good luck with plaster/charcoal/ and salt mix For chambers. I’ve used JB weld as well, and covered that with a bowl coating. Water Glass is used by the pros though.

    Replacement for blending perique

How about this. What blend has a high perique content, that I can mix with a Virginia baccy? Thanks all.

    Replacement for blending perique

Hello all. my regular supplier is out of blending perique and has been for a long time. I’m wondering if I could use something like Five Brothers to blend with a nice red Virginia. Thanks Everyone, - Bill

I Want to Be a Master Stem-Cutter. Where Do I Start?

First I’d buy some stem blanks and work with those. While your saving for your lathe. ;)

    Efficient sanding ideas

I’ve got a couple of chunks briar I’m reworking. These pipes have to go on a diet. The original designs you can view. I’ve trimmed the tops of a couple and I’m working towards a couple of chimneys. BUT, I’ve got to remove briar. I did many of the initial cuts with a dremel, but the sanding is...

    Recommended Glue Brand?

If you have a drill, you may drill out the tenon slot, then reinsert a tenon close to the size ( make sure it’s larger). Then epoxy the new tenon in the hole slot. Ive seen this done with a drill. DO NOT use a high speed dremel for this one.

    Amber Stems & Vinyl Tape

What your looking for is silicone tape, and it works very well. I much prefer it to the rubber bits. I use about 4 inches and begin to wrap from the underside of the bit. Wrap tightly. The tape does stretch a lot. I use black, but I believe it may come in clear as well. Available at any good...

    Meer Restoration Help Please

Get a small piece of dowel, and wrap with sandpaper. Don’t use any alcohol products and try to avoid water. Slowly trim down the cake.

    I've made a mistake

I’d suggest a dowel. Get the smallest OD you can find and work it down a bit.

    A Virginia to replace 5100

The blend of that I’m trying to copy is called “Louisiana Red” and I realize this is an actual blend from H&H. I like to stick with one vendor and I do like to blend. Ill try Sutliff Matured Red Virginia 515 RC-1 and do a little something with it. My guy is also out of perique as well. Id...

    A Virginia to replace 5100

We all miss McClelland 5100. I used to mix up a batch of 5100 with some perique and it was great. Im looking for a good bulk replacement, and rather unsure of what to look for. Will any good red Virginia do, or should it be some special virginia mixture. Thanks all, -Bill

    I’m Latakia’d out!

My search for a sweet Latakia blend lent itself to a little burn out on Latakia. I’ve got three mixes from a vendor, and got to Sextant by GL Pease. I did like it. Perhaps a little heavy. Maybe Spring and Summer doesn’t lend itself to a heavy Latakia. I think I’m more of a Vapor man. I need a...

    Obstinate Ghost in the house.

Yup. Sounds like it’ll be my Lakeland / cherry / mixture 79 pipe. It’s a yard pipe for sure. If not I can always use as a tester for fill material, dyeing etc.

    Burnout

Clean the bowl down to the briar. Pick out the charred portions of the bowl. Inside the bowl a mixture of plaster, charcoal, and salt. Driers very hard. 2 parts plaster, 1 part charcoal, 1 part salt. Press this into the burnt portion. It may take a couple of applications. After dry, sand the...

Pipe Stems Still Brown - Help!

Elbow grease. This happens from time to time. Vulcanite sometimes is not the same from stem to stem. Briarville makes a good product, and I’ve had good luck with oxyclean. All depends upon the situation, but as mentioned you have to remove material. My steps in sanding … If there’s a logo on...
