I’ve got a couple of chunks briar I’m reworking. These pipes have to go on a diet. The original designs you can view. I’ve trimmed the tops of a couple and I’m working towards a couple of chimneys.
BUT, I’ve got to remove briar. I did many of the initial cuts with a dremel, but the sanding is slow. ive got a hand file but that is slow going as well.

Is there any tool with some control that can reduce the amount of briar on the pipe.
Thanks for the tips!
-Bill

Stiff sanding disk with Velcro from the Baumarkt put into the drill, which is fastened to the workbench. Use with 120 up to 200 grid. Like any sanding disk it will take off briar in no time. Wear a mask, glasses vacuum clean the dust while working.

A hand drill clamped in a vise w/French wheel can work, but watch out for overheating... they aren't designed for minutes of continuous running under load.

The dust problem doing that will also be a Big Deal.

Here's a low cost way to shape stummels and stems that works well, and has a low "dust quotient":

Yup. a good belt sander will remove a lot of surface in a short period of time. I prefer one with a "rest" on it. I think the rest allows better control. Just keep control of the pipe, don't let it get away from you. I don't fo pipes but, my woodworking entails some "detail" work on smaller pieces.
