Title edited for caps. Please show pictures.

I have a Poul Winslow pipe that I’ve smoked for……at least 10 years and the stem insert connecting the stem to the pipe separated from the rest of the stem. Any suggestions on what type of glue to use? Will any super glue do fine, or is there specific glue I should use or stay away from?

You will need to roughen the facing surfaces and use an epoxy to connect the two parts. Super glue will not be strong enough to hold up to the torque of twisting the stem out of the shank.

Gluing a snapped-off tenon is asking for trouble.

It will stay in place for a while, then let go.

If the stummel falls in your lap when that happens, or you were just inserting or removing the stem for cleaning, no biggie. If it falls on cement from five feet, or under your feet while driving on a busy freeway, it definitely is a biggie.

Replacing the tenon with a new one that's glued INTO the stem face is the only reliable way to do it.

It didn’t snap off.
I wasn’t thinking of the tenon being snapped off, but it seems likely that’s what was described. I imagined a tenon that had to be inserted in a hole in the stem and re-affixed.
Right - this is what happened, the tendon needs reinserted. I can’t get a pic right now because not with the pipe, but will try the epoxy option. Thanks for that suggestion.

If you have a drill, you may drill out the tenon slot, then reinsert a tenon close to the size ( make sure it’s larger). Then epoxy the new tenon in the hole slot. Ive seen this done with a drill. DO NOT use a high speed dremel for this one.

For pipes I have no idea though I like to glue my own leaves together to make a plug. Elmer’s is fine
