Can Lined Mortises be Treated Like an Army Mount?

Treat it like an army mount. I like them like that. Excellent against shank breakage. It might have been repaired. I can’t recall Stanwell doing this to any of their pipes.

What’s Stuck Inside the Bowl of this Pipe?

Sadly not an unsmoked pipe. I’m very sure that’s JB weld in that bowl.

Problem with CA glue and carbon

Hi George. This stuff sounds like the ticket. Although the colorant is very very expensive. Do you think anything else would work as colorant like powdered charcoal, or some colorants other than the g-flex manufacturer ?

    Marlin Flake Tastes Like Stonehaven?

I can’t agree that they taste similar. I would agree that Stonehaven has differences in taste from jar to jar. Sometimes very flavourful, and other times just meh.

Problem with CA glue and carbon

Think I’ve found a solution to this. My powdered charcoal is in a small jar. I dot the hole in the stem or imperfection with black CA, then holding the stem over the jar I sprinkle powdered charcoal on the glue. Sets up all most immediately. I get minimal air bubbles.

    Stanwell 51 Vario refurb

I knew the issues, but for $40 a good deal. Very dirty pipe, a chipped stem, heat cracks and fissures in the bowl. I tried something new. I wanted the ovals on each side of the bowl to stand out. Rather than staining the entire pipe, I used a q-tip to paint light brown dye around the ovals...

    Perfume on Pipe!

My wife sprayed lemon pledge on a few of my pipes. After i extracated myself from the ceiling I soaked all the bowls in a jar of iso alcohol for a few days. Did the trick. The smell will gradually go away.

Problem with CA glue and carbon

For those of us well versed in the restoration of stem holes, bite marks, and chipped vulcanite stems. Standard practice is to mix ca glue with powdered carbon for these repairs. The problem I continually have is how fast this mixture sets, setting so fast that one hardly has any time to get it...

School me on Hand Making a Pipe

I’ll bite. A pre drilled is the best way to go. But if you want to start with a block of briar you can. Draw on the block your rough cuts. Cuts can be made with a small saw. The drilling is the most challenging and that’s why I buy the pre drilled block. If you want to drill on your own you’ll...

    How to Re-Hydrate Pipe Tobacco

Exactly what I’ve been doing. Get a new bottle and wash it out with distilled water. Since I like to have a variety handy I’ve ordered a bunch of 5 by 7 Mylar bags. Mylar is far, far better than plastic bags. I think I have about 12 bags of dry baccy, all being transferred to Mylar.

    Signage regulation in Ontario

I’m in Saskatchewan, and I’m so tired of politicians telling me what I can put in my body. I’ve smoked a pipe for years without any medical problems. Never inhale. And to get any tobacco I have to contact a guy who knows a guy, who knows a guy. But you can buy weed, you can vape, you can chew...

    Whatever Happened to Troost Tobacco?

Thanks. Known only to God answers many questions of long lost tobacco. Maybe it wasn’t that popular to begin with. It was one of those regulars at the convenience store. I had some Green Sail the other day and my tongue fell off. Years ago that’s all I smoked.

    Whatever Happened to Troost Tobacco?

Long ago I used to smoke this by the pouch. Had a distinct toasty flavour. I rather liked it. I wonder who the manufacturer is now and if it’s now a different name.

    Coupons

I remember the days when there was a coupon inside green Sail tins. Long gone of course and I smoked a lot of it.

Which GL Pease Should I Buy?

My GLP blends are Triple Play and Jacknife RR. When I think of Pease I always think Lataki, so for me it’s Sextant. It’s got a little rum as a sweetener. Fortunately or unfortunately his vapers need aging. If I buy I like to smoke right away.

    Thanks Todd. Great info.
