    Cat and Dog Nicknames

My sixteen year old orange tabby cat is named "Orion" after the cat in Men in Black. However, he is often inlined to join me out in the shop while I smoke a pipe and he comes back in the house smelling of pipe smoke. So my wife now calls him "Smokey". Old Man Smokey in his "golden years"

A Small Random Gallery Of Pipe-Related Postcards...

Some awesome classics there! I particularly like the sailor from the "Iron Duke", which was the dreadnought flagship for the Royal Navy during the first world war. And if Dr Grabow were around then they would have had an "Iron Duke" pipe!

Not old but not quite new

Cobs Pro: Predictable, reliable, low maintenance and affordable instruments for smoking tobacco. That's enough to recommend them right there. Cobs Con: Can taste like a mouthful of burnt popcorn if you burn down to the part of the shank that sticks into the bowl =) Not quite as interesting to...

Show Off Your Dr. Grabow Pipes Here!

Here's old beat up Starfire I found on ebay. As you can see it was in very sad shape, covered with dust, mold and mildew and scuffed up. While I couldn't make look new it is now at least presentable and usable. Smokes very nicely. I also made a new spade emblem with white enamel paint and...

    5 pipes for sale locally.

Just as a matter of curiosity I'd choose the pipe on the top left. The shape is out of the ordinary and stylistically looks like it might be the oldest. I'm thinking more as a collector though, than a smoker.

Show Off Your LHS Pipes Here

Here's a little baby Purex complete with a "P lip". Looks like it could use a bit of refinishing. Shouldn't be a problem.

    Royal Duke of Dundee

Just got another of these oddities. It has the same metal condenser cartridge as the pipe in my original post. Recognized it right away when I saw it on ebay. This is a Royal Duke of Dundee with all the bells and whistles such as in this 1943 ad: Here's the the pipe as it arrived from the...

    Flaming a Pipe???

One thing I wouldn't do is smoke with a bunch of flammable liquids around. Very bad idea. Better have a fire extinguisher nearby for this too.

    Custombilt Look-alike Pipe

It wasn't expensive. $10.50. My max on any estate is twenty bucks. I don't win many auctions but it keeps my expenses down and my losses tolerable.

    Custombilt Look-alike Pipe

I've been searching ebay since this original post and finally may have gotten something on the hook. I haven't received the pipe yet, but it's stamped "Moore Mark". From the couple of references seen on the Web, there may be some connection to Tracy Mincer or Custombilt pipes. Maybe somebody...

    Ebay Tranasaction Cancelled

I've had auctions cancelled on me and it's always a disappointment. Some people value their money more than their integrity.

My dad had a very similar surgery and did quite well with it. My prayers are with you.

    Sterncrest Sterling Resto before/after

Another worthy pipe saved from oblivion! Can't even tell it was topped. Hey, you let a nice LHS rhodesian go unsold on ebay this afternoon. I was shocked!

    [OT] Avant Garde Music Anyone?

Accch! She's the Queen of Cringe. Why would people pay money to subject themselves to that? My favorite avant garde composer is Claudio Monteverdi. He practically invented a new form of musical expressiveness, although he claimed he was just putting into writing what musicians were...

    This Month's Gratuitous Dog Pictures

We had to say goodbye to Boris this year. He was a good dog and stout companion.

    Starting out with pipe rehab

Brass, I hold the drill on my knee with my right hand and the pipe with my left. It does require a little dexterity with the left hand but you are using such low RPMs that you should never have a problem. The problem with the Dremel is that the polishing pads are so small it's hard to get equal...
