    5 of Great Grandfathers pipes

You are in the same position I was in three years ago. I had four or five of my grandfather's pipes from the same time period, similar quality and shape. I read these forums and a few blogs, then made a decision to try and clean them up myself. I practiced on some junk pipes I picked up on ebay...

    Fed Up With ebay

That bulldog is the cleanest one of the lot. There is no stem oxidation or any tooth marks. It's like it was sent here via time machine from the 1930s or 40s. The Hollycourt is new looking as well but it has some pretty obvious fills. Still nice to have it my collection though. Probably from the...

My PAD has become an overnight Ebay addiction

beerandbaccy asked: I've had it almost a year and have never smoked it. I don't know why not. Maybe the thought of a spider being stuck in that tube gets to me. I will say that pipe gets the most comments when I take it out to show visitors.

    Fed Up With ebay

I got tired of watching pipe auctions for mediocre or worse stock close in the $60 dollar range over this past week. (Who is buying all of that crud at those prices?) So I went to the local antique store and found a few interesting things. In the front is a GBD "International" London Made. A...

    Remember When Words Meant Words

This happens to all languages over time. If they don't change they go extinct. I read an article recently about the tough time contemporary listeners have understanding Shakespeare and it's for the same reason. The words are there that we immediately recognize but the meanings have changed over...

Newbie flailing on whether to smoke or not!

We all have an expiration date. The closer I get to mine the less worried I am about trading risk for pleasure and enjoying some of the finer things life has to offer. I don't think you are there yet. Then again, I grew up in the hydrocarbon infused air of Los Angeles eating insecticide soaked...

    Great-Grandfathers Pipe Picture - Found!

Gentleman, Thanks for the complements. I'm not a Photoshop power user by any standard, but I did manage to learn a few things after inheriting all of my dad's family photos. Just takes time and patience. Though my grandfather smoked a pipe all through his adult life, I searched through all of...

My PAD has become an overnight Ebay addiction

I know all about the outcomes regarding ebay and alcohol. That's how I ended up with this: I should do an entire gallery of that phenomenon.

    Winner winner, highest bidder!

My last win was this Lorenzo Savona Studio 805 Canadian I got for a total of $14 bucks. It was in perfect condition. Smokes very well. Just before that, I won this El Kala-Algerie 1051, also in pretty good condition. It was $13.00. The Lorenzo I could find plenty of information about but the...

Grandfather's Pipes, how do I start researching?

nakitathedog, welcome to the forms. Check out the sticky on how to post pictures, or provide a link to your online photo library of choice. I'd love to see the pipes! The manufacturer, model (usually a number) and country of origin of the pipe would be stamped on the shank, either on the side...

    Great-Grandfathers Pipe Picture - Found!

ssjones, I hope I'm not out of line by posting another copy of your pipe picture. It just kills me to see a torn, treasured photograph. If I had time I'd get down to the pixel level and make it look a lot better. As long as you don't enlarge this I think it's an improvement.(Or at least an...

    Great-Grandfathers Pipe Picture - Found!

I love looking at all the old photographs. Ya know it's not too difficult these days to restore those images. Orely, When I saw your grandfather's pipe I thought it might be an old LHS with an ambroid stem like the one in this photo: Could be a Yello Bole too though.

I Tortured A Coral White Kaywoodie...

I like it! From an aesthetics point of view you definitely improved the pipe. I've never been fond of those coral finished pipes, especially after they've become chipped and yellow.

    Sept 2015 Smokingpipes.com Upgrade

Yep. I was there the other trying to buy a new pipe and left in utter frustration. So I went over to P&C and couldn't find anything I wanted that was in stock. Sometimes it's just not meant to be. Deathmetal, agreed, Reddit is a great place for cute cat pictures and reposts from liberal blog sites.

    What are your other hobbies?

Some of my other pipes. These are all Moeck Rottenburg recorders. The one made of African blackwood is tuned at Baroque pitch or A=415. Since I've reached retirement status I've been reunited with my old group. We played through some Holborne five part almains and galliards on Monday. It's very...
