Am I the only one who thinks Al must be related to Ditka? That's clearly Ditka's grandfather. ;)

I love looking at all the old photographs. Ya know it's not too difficult these days to restore those images.
Orely,
When I saw your grandfather's pipe I thought it might be an old LHS with an ambroid stem like the one in this photo:

Could be a Yello Bole too though.

ssjones, I hope I'm not out of line by posting another copy of your pipe picture. It just kills me to see a torn, treasured photograph. If I had time I'd get down to the pixel level and make it look a lot better. As long as you don't enlarge this I think it's an improvement.(Or at least an alternative view)

Al, I am so pleased with all the contributions you have made that you could recover such a treasured slice of family history. Photography has been such a blessing to so many people.

Contributing to the hijacking... my grandfather, Richard James White, at Mont Avila, Quebec, sometime in the 1940s. The pipe is probably a Blatter & Blatter.

Yikes - I forgot to add this thread as a favorite!
@tuold, that is amazing work - how did you do that? The photo is not even a scanned copy, but a picture taken by my camera phone. Could you email me a corrected copy?

@tuold : I echo sable's comments - I had an old copy of Photoshop and never mastered it. I don't have it on my new laptop. I grabbed a copy you had in your folder, thanks so much!

Gentleman, Thanks for the complements. I'm not a Photoshop power user by any standard, but I did manage to learn a few things after inheriting all of my dad's family photos. Just takes time and patience.
Though my grandfather smoked a pipe all through his adult life, I searched through all of my family photos and couldn't find one of him with a pipe. You guys are lucky!

Here's an update:

At the end of this year, I finally got around to scanning the picture and member tuold kindly reworked it for me. I had actually found another picture as well (no pipe).
In review with my mother and father, the gentleman with the pipe turns out to be my great-great grandfather (he was my fathers Grandfather, not father).
From these higher resolution photos, doctored by tuold, I had prints made for everyone in the family and each rec'd a pair for Christmas.
Thanks tuold for your time and help!
