    Question For The Rope Smokers

Sharp knife here. I also cut and loosely(barely) rub out maybe 1/2 oz at a time to dry for a day or two(humid climate) in a baking tin before smoking.

***What Are You Smoking, October 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. Having some more of this one again… maybe I’ll call it “after hours”… definitely a good evening smoke. It packs a wallop, intense fruit and spice for the first half and settles into an earthy creamy venture for the second half(which is the best IMO). Flake cut. 50% stoved red...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. A nice powerhouse blend of stoved red Virginia, kentucky and perique. Pressed and cut to flake. A cool smoking blend, spicy at first but melds into a creamy and earthy smoke for the second half. 50% stoved red virginia 30% kentucky 20% perique in a stubby(replacement stem)...

    Don't Just Smoke A Pipe

I haven’t seen pipe technique being explained in that way, but I like it! It’s always said “slow down”! But it’s a variable thing.

    Guide Me on Cobs

Many choices! I’d first check the chamber sizes to help decide. The country gentleman is .75x1.5. I’ve never had a hardwood bottom but I haven’t had any problems on the models without them.

    Pipe tobacco cut preference

Ropes, they are easier to cut than plugs. But half the time it’s ribbon cause I don’t always have time to stove up some ropes.

A Question For You Ebay Sellers...

Interesting theory. I have been selling for a couple years and haven’t notice much lately. Only had one or two bids retracted in my history of selling 20-30 pipes.

    The Changing of the Blend

Blends are always changing. Blenders sometimes have several different years of the same variety of leaf and will mix them accordingly to get a similar flavour, like with wine. Sometimes the change is done in a slow and progressive way when they might realize they are running low on a particular...

    Differences

Yes I’ve found similar. The cake on a briar will imbue flavours of previously smoked bowls that can serve to meld or smooth out bolder smokes and enhance subtler blends like a Virginia flake. The meer does have a clear flavour that can seem to brighten up blends.

    Is Tongue Bite Over Hyped?

Depends on how much you smoke too. One bowl a day and there shouldn’t be much issues, but if you smoke several bowls a day of “bitey” or moist tobacco and a little bit of scorching here and there might catch up with you. I know this is the case for me, but I didn’t have many issues for months...

Tobacco that Burn Like Gunpowder, Even If You Smoke Slow.

Well one memorable time was when I trying my first pouch of a va per blend(Dan’s St. Bernard) and got bit from a Virginia for the first time. It was like someone pouring acid on my tongue, I didn’t know what the hell was happening. I do remember the tobacco being quite moist though. I recovered...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. A simple mixture of stoved bright Virginia with Kentucky. I wanted something that was a full Kentucky flavour that was more of an all day blend, so I paired it with black stoved bright virginia(16 hr) to spread it out a bit more. The black stoved va doesn’t have much flavour on...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. Dark stoved full va per. Dark stoved red Virginia and black stoved bright Virginia and a full helping of perique(25%). No bright notes here, just deep stoved goodness with lots of fruitiness and an almost graham cracker thing going on. And of course lots of spice! Just for...

What Is Your Standard For Deep Cleaning A Tobacco Pipe?

I run some pipe cleaners after every smoke. So my regular pipes don’t need a deep clean often. When I do clean though it’s rum/bourbon and pipe cleaners

    Ideal sturdiness

Depends how you treat it mostly. And the luck of the draw. I’ve got some very nice old top quality(for the brand) estates (and beaters) that have been cracked from the previous owner, misuse or luck of the draw, not sure, but they still smoke great and probably will for a long time. probably...

Do you Love to Smoke Your Pipe?

Yep I loves me pipes, they are my companions. I love nicotine too. Used to smoke mainly cigarettes, and they would help me “get by”, but the pipe(and the larger and slower nicotine delivery) chill me the fuck out. Which is a good thing in my books. I also love coffee and caffeine, although I...

Are You Getting An Even Black/Tar Buildup?

When I’m doing my blends, I find a sticky sort of soft cake build up, much quicker when I smoke blends that were cased with some sugar(rum or bourbon for me). The uncased ones burn cleaner with less buildup.

***What Are You Smoking, September 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. In my quest for the coolest smoking flavourful blends, I said “fuck Virginias” and did a smasher of an English blend to get things rolling. It’s a cool and full smoke indeed. 50% kentucky 25-30% latakia 20-25-% orientals(I used krumovgrad. But any kind will work to different...
