Has anyone else ever bitten through a rubber bit?

I just bought an old estate LHS pipe that has a hole in the mouthpiece. It's an easy fix. Some of my own pipes that are 35 years old have some indentations. The only pipe I've ever bitten completely through was one of those cheap meerschaum figurals with the brittle plastic stems. Snapped off...

Piper kindness even bleeds over to ebay!

I've bid on a few of those but never one as good looking as that! Nicely done.

    Time

I'll be retired next year. I usually get home some time after midnight, so I grab a bite to eat, pour myself a drink and head out to the "office" for a smoke. Then I come back in, check email and this forum, then get six hours of sleep before repeating the cycle. On my days off my smoking...

Medico VFQ- Saving an Old Pipe

Very nice! I love my old Medicos.

    Earl of Essex Pipe

Here's an "unbent" version of the same pipe of ebay: Earl of Essex Pipe A day and a half left on the auction and no bids. Poor thing.

Great review! I enjoyed reading it and look forward to more.

Has Anyone Heard of Sierra Pipes?

Another ebay purchase. I liked the large size and attractive grain but I can't find a single thing on the Internet about Sierra. It is merely stamped, "Sierra" and under that, "Made in the USA". and "Imported Briar" on the other side. There is a logo on the stem of a mountain though I can find...

    Earl of Essex Pipe

Here it is post-polish and pipe cleaners. Its only flaw, as far as I'm concerned, is the charring on the rim. The rest is pretty good for 50 year-old pipe picked up on ebay for $8.99. mso489, a "bent pot panel" is good enough for me. I'll be firing it up tonight.

    Earl of Essex Pipe

I received this Earl of Essex pipe from ebay yesterday and will be doing just a bit of clean-up tonight on it. First, I had never heard of this pipe name before even though now that I've searched they seem to be fairly common on pipe auction sites. There was a brief discussion here on these...

    Just like my old job

#cobguy, in my opinion this "lean" business as implemented in pharmacy is 50% crock. What it usually means to me is that when a patient needs something, we don't have it because we just dispensed the one an only item we had in stock. This means calling other hospitals in the area and begging...

    Doctors Visit

You are right. It's not a big deal. But you should be aware there can be complications and I've seen a few things come up in my career working in hospitals. In fact, when my wife went in at age 50 for her exam the clinic had failed to properly sterilize the scope before using it on her. She had...

OT: Witnessed an Armed Bank Heist Today.

I carry a Ruger GP 100 .357 most of the time, but it's only for the protection of my family and myself. I don't plan on being anyone's hero like the poor guy at Walmart a few weeks back who tried to hold a cop killer at gunpoint. He didn't see the perp's girlfriend pull a pistol out of her purse...

New Smoker, Trial and Error and Experience

It goes with a line of John Dryden's: "If all the world be worth thy winning Think, oh think it worth enjoying" Or the Beatles version: "Life is very short, and there's no time For fussing and fighting, my friend."

    Just like my old job

Oh brother! Don't get me started! Our new COO has mandated that each department in the hospital establish metrics for all manner of activities. So we spend countless hours in meetings deciding which metrics to follow and how to incorporate these into reports and newsletters. Our whiteboard is...

Would you spend .10 on this?

Yes, the "Popeye" pipes. I was interested once in having one but they really are too small. Couldn't even suck out a can spinach through one of those.

Does anyone have any clue what this is?

I see these on ebay very frequently. The sellers often claim origins in the Black Forest of Germany or even Canadian Eskimo tribes. I suspect they are souvenir pipes made in Italy. Here's one of many up for bids: Two Headed Pipe

    Your favorite Stokkebye

I consider Balkan Supreme my everyday "house" tobacco these days. It seems to smoke well in just every pipe I put it in. Not being too expensive like some of the other balkans, I can enjoy it casually without seeing dollar bills go up in smoke.

    Less is More

I usually only smoke if I'm doing something that requires concentration and not a lot of movement. Pipe smoking is great for reading, listening to music or music composition or just thinking things over. I've found it less than satisfactory accompaniment for model building, music playing or...
