    What movie are you watching?

I watched "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" in Netflix last night. It was interesting from a cultural perspective in that even though the abject and slightly maudlin patriotism comes off as being dated (1939) and naive at the surface, I soon realized that it was completely nonpartisan in...

LHS Sterncrest - One For The Resto Box (Pic Heavy)

Pruss, don't worry! I'm happy a fellow forum member won it! Let us know how it smokes. I just won another LHS this morning. I'm not huge on carved bowls, but this one should be fun to spiff up. I figure at $6.99 I can't loose. Right?

    Recommendations for Wagner?

Wagner was an amazing composer, ever original, imaginative and dramatic. I listen to mostly Baroque and Renaissance music, but every summer I listen to the complete Ring Cycle, either at a live performance or DVD or CD. The part where Woton must strip his favorite daughter of her immortality and...

Pipe smokers under 25 on here???

I was 23 when this was taken in 1978. Smokin' my Tinderbox Verona. It's still one of my favorite pipes.

LHS Sterncrest - One For The Resto Box (Pic Heavy)

I was watching that one. Can't remember if the auction ended while I was at work or if the bidding went too high At any rate I would have loved to have won that one! I have several LHS pipes and so far they are all keepers. Yours looks like it will clean up really nicely. Congrats!

My pipe gets hot what should I do?

I smoked Captain Black for several years as a new pipe smoker. The stuff is radioactive, trust me. Try one of the vanilla aromatics from Sutliff, maybe Vanilla Custard, and you may have an easier time of it. Just my opinion.

Do You LIke Straight Grain Pipes? Why or Why Not

I think my favorite grain pattern is tiger grain, as long as it's consistent over the briar.

+1 I click on every single damn thread in this forum. It's like a box of candy.....

    Three Dukes

Ya know, I've smoked that Silver Duke several times since posting that and it's become one of my favorites. I'm not too crazy about the little one. Seems to be a completely different animal. Also, just won a very nice jumbo Wellington for a pittance because the seller listed it as "old smoking...

New pipe smoker bought a huge collection of estate pipes

If I had all those pipes I wouldn't come out of my shop for a week! Be sure to post more pictures as you restore them.

    A Pipe Sighting!

I'm still waiting to spot the elusive piper here in Portland, Oregon. I've got my cell phone camera at the ready!

This forum rocks! It's just about the only place I can read about good things happening.

    Buffing Station Up!

I've shattered my share of pipes and stems in pursuing my restoration hobby. Save the pieces and parts. You will need them at some point. Briar dust and superglue make a much better filler than the putty some factories used. You just have to use a dental pick and remove the old fill. Good for...

Question For The Dr Grabow Experts

The one I linked to has been around the block more than a few times, but it might be from the same era. Grabow made and still makes smooth and carved versions of the same pipe models. It would be interesting to know if you bought a pre 1990's pipe new. Seems possible.

Question For The Dr Grabow Experts

I'm not one of the brain trust members, but I am interested in the answer! Does it look like this one?: Grand Duke on Ebay

    Removing sandblast

Yes, this should be interesting to follow. Either the itinerant pipe craftsman will triumph with a new masterpiece in the form of a transformed pipe or the dust of failure will be swept up from the shop floor and discarded. Please post pictures of the finished project!

    Pipes is Politics

The point of a political discussion is to persuade others that they are wrong and you are right. In all my years of participating on Internet forums I've never, ever seen anyone "turned" by another opinion. It's futile. People believe what they believe and they are not going to be changed by a...
