    My Rebutal to Smoking Naysayers

It's certainly true in the sense that as soon as you begin you are heading towards a fixed end point. What the often quoted saying is lacking is a description of the process of birth, growth, decline and death. It's just that if you say, "You actually begin the trek towards death the moment you...

    Moldy Pipes

You've got some work ahead of you there, but it should be fun work. You can search this forum for posts on estate pipe restoration and there are many helpful videos on Youtube to watch. If you decide you are not going to get into restoration you can send the pipes out and have a professional do...

    My Rebutal to Smoking Naysayers

Well, the way I look at it, if I live the rest of my life in a plastic bubble eating granola and vegetable smoothies from now on, I've got twenty to twenty-five years left. If I keep smoking my pipe and drinking whiskey I figure I've got at least thirty. Not a hard decision.

    Oldest pipe you own?

Well, my CPF Selkirk which I've pictured many times in various threads is coming up on the century mark and smoking just fine. Then I've got this old Yello-Bole which pre-WWII.

New Smoker, Trial and Error and Experience

Hey carlweis, my entire collection consists of Kaywoodies, Yello-Boles, LHS, Grabows and other assorted "working man" pipes. I'm not a drug store pipe snob by any means, but I had to start somewhere! Now that I feel like I know my way around a little better, which shapes I prefer and so on, I...

    Falcon Pipes

I have two. My personal opinion is they are fine pipes. They are a little light in the mouth and difficult for me to clench. More than once I've flipped ash in my face trying to smoke and do something else.

Something Weird Happened To Me On Ebay ???

Yes, it probably was a tie bid. The question comes up in the ebay forums from time to time:

    Recommendations for Wagner?

I'm very sorry to hear about your cat. I had one years ago that was a constant companion. He would stay up with me late at night after everyone else went to bed while I did my music composition. After he died I wrote a musical tribute to him. Now I've got two more who are not so musically...

    Working on This Wellington

Hawke, I cracked the bowl of my first one by reaming it a little to enthusiastically. All I did to fix it was leak in some Superglue and clamp it for 24 hours. Then sand and re-stain. I can still tell it was damaged, but like yours it smokes just fine.

    Working on This Wellington

I'll have to do some more research when I get home from work tonight, but it looks like "Wellingtons" are still being made. Pipes and Cigars has some made by Roma and they are bargain pipes. Pipedia says S.M. Frank offered Wellingtons into the mid 80's. Mine is pretty worn, so I'd guess it's...

    Falcon Pipe With Interesting Bowl

Looks good! I see there are several web sites which offer custom bowls for Falcons but I didn't see one that looked quite like yours.

    Working on This Wellington

This is my project for today. I removed the damaged lacquer finish, sanded, buffed and re-stained, buffed, waxed and buffed again. Same ol' tune. The stem has been a real pain. You can see I still have some work to do on it. I've never got one so badly oxidized before. I'll hit it some more on...

    Recommendations for Wagner?

In a not rare enough shameless display of self promotion I offer my Fugue in A minor which I based on two lietmotifs from Wagner's Ring. (If you can't stand cheesy MIDI playback please don't listen  "Woton Fugue in A minor"

    Recommendations for Wagner?

Andrew, from what I read "TotW" was appreciated everywhere as a groundbreaking award winning political feature. However, now we look at now as a sort of evil promo film for Darth Vader and the Empire. Makes me wonder how history will judge some of the contemporary "propaganda as art" that passes...

    Recommendations for Wagner?

Ok, I don't want to come off as a classical music snob, so here is a link to some Wagner instrumental arrangements. Marine Band Plays Wagner The upside is the downloads are all free. There. I violated my own principles for the sake of education and musical enjoyment. :-) They are pretty good...

    Recommendations for Wagner?

Most of the music for "Triumph of the Will" is by a composer named Herbert Windt. There is some Wagner tossed in there. But since Leni Riefenstahl wanted this to appeal to those who where otherwise non-political, she had Windt orchestrate some popular songs and marches everybody would know. BTW...
