Just watched "Her" yesterday. One of the few movies I've ever watched that didn't leave me feeling like a nap would have been a better use of my time. Fantastic film.

That was a hard one to watch. I read the book first, which gave a little more insight into what great guys they were. Watching the explicitly graphic scenes of the awesome men getting cut to pieces was not a pleasant experience for me. I started to walk out of the theater several times, but didn't. Wish I had.
Well done movie, just very hard to stomach.

I watched it on Direct TV 3 nights ago, didn't know if I could, halfway thru I started crying and got up and went into my pipe room, lit up and pondered. Didn't think it would do that but half way into Saveing Private Ryan I had to walk out. So I"m 2 for 2 , Old age maybe? I have Lone Survivour for 2 days but I won't finish it.

I watched "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" in Netflix last night. It was interesting from a cultural perspective in that even though the abject and slightly maudlin patriotism comes off as being dated (1939) and naive at the surface, I soon realized that it was completely nonpartisan in presentation. Of course Jimmy Stewart was such a young man then, so he played the part perfectly. Claude Rains was great too.
I don't know if such a movie could be made today with the culture of "identity politics" we have now.

We re-watched "Stand Up Guys" last night ... third time for this one.
Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin do a great job in this one.
There is a good mix of action, humor and emotion / drama.

Ride With the Devil directed by Ang Lee. Deals with the Missouri-Kansas border war. The rising young cast includes Tobey Maguire, Jeffrey Wright and Jim Caviezel. All are young men who join up with the Confederate-sympathizing Bushwhackers. Yep, Jeffrey Wright fights with the Bushwhackers.

Got my horror fix last night with the "Conjouring". It wasn't too bad. Some disturbing areas that give that creepy uneasiness.
