Air in jar: friend or enemy

For Balkans that I don't want to lose freshness I try to pack jars with as little air as possible. For Virginia flakes where I want the aging to proceed faster I give it a little more space.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

This has that old timey Irish plug flavoring, like Mick McQuaid or Yachtsman Plug. I love it.

    Latakia and the pine tree

Loss of the pine and cedar trees of Syria are one reason the authorities there stopped production of Latakia. Not sure what kind of woods the Cypriots and the Turks use today.

Please Americans - Help a Canadian Piper!

If it were me I would rent the cheapest self storage locker available and keep it stateside. Then every time you cross the border bring a few tins with you. Over time you will have brought everything and can cancel the storage locker. Another strategy is to use FedEx's small box (thin box). It...

What Is Your Experience With Tariffs When Ordering Pipes From Abroad?

I see your point that it does not hurt to ask. Yes, if it makes business sense for the seller then fine. What we all want in the long run is for these shops to stay in business. They are the last of their kind.

What Is Your Experience With Tariffs When Ordering Pipes From Abroad?

I would never make the shop pay the tariff. It's not their fault and they get nothing from it. I do use a discount at a couple of Italian retailers and the shipping is reasonable. Recently I was charged a tariff by DHL to deliver from customs (which I paid), but a similar shipment from FedEx did...

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

I've never seen a Blue Riband box. It's the right box for the shape number too.

    The Real Bing Crosby

So there is an auction coming up of Bing Crosby and his wife's collections at Sothebys. Video linked below. Sadly, the only pipe-related thing in the sale is a Faberge pipe holder. Do any of you pipe dealers know what happened to his pipes? Video about the sale

Which no longer produced tobacco blend do you or will you miss the most?

The "original" Devil's Anse Pipe? (From The Mini Series)

Why have pipe makers so failed to capture the true dimensions of the real thing? It is clearly a slim, almost pencil shanked rounded cutty. Like a forward canted apple or ball shape. Slim and short but not too short. This is why, while I love the Costner pipe, I have never found one I like...

    TAD Acquisitions 2025

By the way, this will probably be one of the last big orders I ever make. I've got enough to last me a long time, after years of trying things have been lucky to just concentrate on the few blends I really want, and I find I smoke less in the cold weather now so what I have in the cellar will be...

    TAD Acquisitions 2025

So I took advantage of a Black Friday 10% off sale. 5X Navy Rolls, 5X Veermaster, plus a 250 gram bag. When you figure free shipping and the retailer I ordered from (which shall remain nameless to protect the innocent) does not (yet) charge state sales tax it saved me a ton.

    Pipe Shape Subtleties........

I test AI by asking the difference between a lumberman and a Liverpool.

    Castello Sea Rock

Tim West made a very good copy of a BBB stem for me. He even put the old triangle "BBB" logo in the new stem. Luckily I still had the logo piece. I recommend him for stem work generally (not commenting on diamond logo replacement specifically).

NPD - Castello Sea Rock Shape 32 KK

Great pipe. I like the straights too. And Sea Rock is my favorite finish, I even like it more than the expensive smooths.
