I very seldom sell anything, but with all this discussion about Mac Baren, Sutliff and now death and legacy, I find myself in a conundrum. When the impending closure of Sutliff was annoynced, I bought a five pound block of 507c Virginia Flake, totally forgetting that I have at least that much already in jars. So, I’m thinking that in ten years or so, if I don’t get around to smoking it all, this ripe block of deliciousness may be worth something.

The question: Do I seal up the entire unmolested brick in heavy duty Mylar, or jar it? Seems to me it may be an attractive buy if I leave it whole.

What says you?

Leave it whole and seal it all up at once.
I recently went through this thought process just for an 8oz tin (open now and jar into separate portions, or leave all sealed up to age as a block). Decided best to leave it in the tin until some later day when I get into it. Determining reason: opening and handling now just gives one more chance for mold to sneak in. Best leave it alone.

Rub it against a cheesegrater a few times, then leave it on the forest floor of the Amazon for a couple of days. Then soak in wildebeest urine for about three hours, and wrap it in packing tape.

If you do it correctly, you should be able to enjoy at least half a bowl of something before some workers at the nearest mental institution come knocking at your door.

Mazel tov! 😎

Wait, I thought you said in another thread the 507C is made by STG.
So, assuming they keep it in the range no change in the blend is expected.
I guess they could discontinue it. We will have to wait and see. But I'm hopeful that blends in the SP Top Ten lists sell well enough to warrant continued production.

Mylar the brick.

Think of it this way. If people are willing to spend $5-600 on a recent bag of Stonehaven, or $400 on the ossified remains of a 1980's tin of Balkan Supreme, they should be thrilled to pay $1000 for a brick of this possibly OOP blend, which will have reached legendary compared to the wood chips they'll be smoking.

My sleazy suggestion: a food saver bag.

Not because it actually protects the tobacco well, but because it makes a show of protecting the tobacco while still temping your future customer with a view of the bonified factory label on this long dead unicorn.
Actually, it’s already sealed in clear Mylar. I have a lot of clear Mylar bags that size, but I’m opting for a metalicized 7 mil bag.

My dumb ass does that to bags of bulk until I decide what to do with them. Not “cellar/aging” storage, but at least as good as what any blend bought in bulk is stored in at distributor.

that was just ordered and delivered a relative minute ago😉
I’m pretty sure 507C will survive the impending Sutliff pogrom.

To all those that think 507C is horrible, I’ll happily pay shipping for any you’d like to dispose of😉
