Time To Give Up The Hobby

You can order by the leaf and blend yourself but that’s another part of our hobby. Sometimes you can get a tin into Canada. i was stung pretty good last year about this time. Keep the orders small. Network with other Canadians like myself. Chat.

Some Real Progress With Invisible Stem Repairs

Has anybody tried JB Weld in black? I didn’t know they made it in black but I’d like to try it on some stem repairs.

Do you keep a journal of your work on pipes?

I don’t write up a specific pipe, but if I run across a great procedure or tip I’ll make a note about that specific problem and how it was solved. ie - pipe will pinning, and different specifics for stem repair.

    Sweet Latakia Blend Recommendations

I was looking for exactly that some time ago. Settled on GL Pease Sextant. It’s got rum in it but that translates to sweet

Blocked from viewing Tobacco Reviews website.

I’ve used it in the past just for remembering some of the blends I ordered. Stupid decision IMO. If you want to tank a forum they just did it.

Recommendations for Shops in Palm Springs

Planning a trip soon and I know nothing about the shops in that area. I visit a sister from time to time. I’m probably going to pick up some house blends and not too much tinned. Any recommendations? ill probably call once I have a name. Thanks ~ Bill

    Mineral Oil For Faded Finish

I’ve found that mineral oil will significantly darken a pipe IF left too long on the pipe. A light coating left for a minute is what I like. Mineral oil also does wonders when setting a stain. In the winter, my buffer is outside, so before allowing a briar to rest I’ll use Renaissance wax.

    Removing Ghosts

+++^^. When I pick up ISO at the drugstore I just tell them it’s for electronics or antiques. I may have mentioned something about electric trains, or metal chess pieces.

Thriving in the Upcoming Tobacco Apocalypse

Well I’m in Canada, and I’ve got the tax stories. I’m also retired. i have a few jars and once in a while I’ll try and get something from US friends. I have a sister in Palm Springs so that helps a bit. I don’t think tobacco will ever be outlawed so to speak. The government through taxes just...

    Pipe Smoking & Nicotine Addiction

Great thread. I love nicotine and coffee. Two vices. I only smoke outside, and with the truck window down. Maybe two bowls a week. as one can see from the threads this is completely an individual thing. I think sometimes I get more enjoyment of restoring a pipe more than the actual smoking. I...

    Advice on Buffing Wheels

@ssjones …. Al, I’ve decided to go with Carswell. They have the best application. Now I need to some advice on wheels. I’ll get a soft one for Carnuba, but I’ll be working with rouge and white compounds. Should I just go with the stitching count? Many thanks ~ Bill

    Advice on Buffing Wheels

I’ve invested in a bench buffer for my small shop. Included in the package was a couple of buffing wheels. There quite low grade as I have threads all over the garage. One wheel is courser than the other. One being softer than the other. Id like some advice on a brand of buffing wheel that’s...

Canadian Import Advice Help - Tax was 200%!

Hi to a fellow Canuck. We’ve all had these “surprises” Many Canadian pipers order from whole leaf and make their own. You learn to cut, and mix and so forth. Do you have a friend in the states? That helps. Start a network. Sometimes it’s “I know a guy, who knows a guy”

Variations on Pipe Mud - Tip for Alternative Ash

I’ve experimented with a number of concoctions but they all work. For those who don’t smoke cigars I’ve found this one to be very useful. A mixture of Elmer’s multi purpose glue, Briar dust and Charcoal dust mixed into a black paste. Apparently, Elmer’s glue is an organic material and when...
