Fun with Stain

This old Nording was a little dinged up but mostly it was just brown, not ugly but nothing special. It had pretty grain hiding so I did some playing with contrast staining. I used chocolate, then sanded. Yellow, sanded again. Wax applied.

No, I should have. It wasnt ugly but nothing stood out. It wasnt so brown everything was hidden but it was pretty dull even when shined up. Im not a fan of hiding grain with darker stains. It also had a lof of very shallow surface damage....just little but still annoying. Calling them dings was a exageration.

I need to hit the edge of the stummel where it meets the stem again with a little stain. Buffing made it a little light at the edge. Im gonna make another photo too. I tried to correct but its still a little orange due to artificial light. Its hard making pipe photos!

Found one. Sadly not the same light so its hard to tell. I will go make a pic in the same spot of it now.

@TheIronMonkey I guess it wasnt as dark as I described but it was dull even when polished and some of the grain just didnt pop. Also the micro scratches made it dull. I think it originally had a contrast stain as well. This is probably close to what it looked like long ago. Maybe a touch lighter. I got it back in 2008 and it was well used at that point.

Terrific job. I have a number of Stanwells and tried duplicating the lighter stain they used, mixing brown and yellow. I never got it just right. Fun project though.

I’ve had good luck with Feibling’s leather dyes cut in alcohol.

Nah. Most of them arent that far left. Its better than the far right Nazi party. One of which was literally thrown out of the party for wearing a nazi military hat online. Lepen has been whitewashing her party for years but a nazi is still a nazi.

The right is united by racism against immigrants… particularly those from arab countries but hatred of anyone not white and French is fair game. The left is very reactive to income disparity which is growing. Of course there are always those extreme folks who tend to be nuts.

The way the vote went gave no one a massive victory. So basically it will result in gridlock.

Politics is always a mess. I prefer pipes.

@Kirklands I sanded with 400 wet dry, then 600, then buffed with rouge. After that wax. I may have gone to 800 if I had it but I cant see any scratches so its good enough.
