    Covid's a Royal Pain

So, caught it from a close family member. Rather than doing me the favor of entirely wiping out my sense of taste and smell, it merely distorted it. Literally, all my food tastes pretty much the same as does my tobacco and they taste alike! Unfortunately, that taste is crappy. When my wife...

C&D Super Balkan & Overcoming Latakia Fatigue

In my 45+ years of pipe smoking I've always fallen in and out of love with latakia. Had been in my no-latakia phase the past 6 months or so. But was taking stuff to the community compost pile today and caught a whiff of something burning and instantly got a desire for latakia back.?So, about to...

Peterson Coming Out with Yet Another Pipe Series

As I'm only aware of it via the Laudisi Distribution facebook entry, cannot link the news here. But see that they're going to come out with yet another spigot series, the Barley spigot. They'll be a natural tan-blast. Attractive. Peterson has certainly established themselves as The producer of...

What? No Coffee or Smoking for Several Days!

OK, so having a tooth extracted tomorrow and did some online research. I consistently read that one should not drink coffee or smoke for several days thereafter. Haven't gone a day without a pipe for 45 years and probably even longer without coffee. That's heinous.

    HH Bold Kentucky

Would have just chimed in with my impressions on 1 of the old BK review threads but they're closed. Just bought a pound and tried it for the first time. I figured I'd like it since I like dark fired Kentucky and it was very nice. But agreed with some reviewers which thought it actually was on...

    Question About Flake Storage

Have just ordered a pound of a flake tobacco which I plan to smoke only a few times each week. Anticipate it lasting me some 4-5 months as a result. Given that, do I really need to jar it or can I get by simply putting it in a zip lock bag?

Question About Peterson Dublin & London Line

The recent discussion of a Dublin & London pipe in the completed e-Bay auctions thread reminded me of my long-time question. I own one and have long wondered what years the original line ran, not the short-lived resurrection of it a few years back. Anyone know? thanks.

    What Are You Drinking: May

Doesn't seem to be a May edition. So I'll start one. Had me a wee dram of Teacher's Highland Cream for the first time. Quite a nice blend featuring Ardmore single malt in the blend. So, it has some peatiness to it. Guess I'll switch back to Scotch after my 6 month dalliance with Irish whiskey.

    What Are You Cooking 2021

Couldn't find a recent cooking thread for this year, so starting one up. We whipped up a batch of chili and tried a new cornbread mix-Famous Dave's. We've eaten countless cornbread mixes over the decades but this stuff is down-right ambrosia, particularly when you drizzle honey butter over the...

    Favorite Online Blues Radio Stations

I'm a creature of habit in that I like chamber music to accompany my morning coffee and pipe to ease me into wakefulness. But, come noon, I like to crank it up with blues. My 2 favorite blues stations are Aardvark Blues FM and 61 Blues. What are your favorite stations?

    Smoking Pipes Bronze Member

Apparently I'm now a bronze member. What do you get for that?

    Merry Christmas To Me

I've thought for awhile that I neither needed nor wanted anymore pipes. But there have long been a couple of Peterson pipes I've still lusted after, a walnut XL02 spigot, (don't have that shape) and a bent rusticated house pipe. Thanks to an unexpected influx to us of cash, I just added those 2...

    Canola Oil and Stems

Decided to take a Magic Eraser to the stem of my 30 year-old Peterson Deerstalker since it was starting to look a little cloudy. Of course, then it was too dull-looking. So tried wiping on a smidge of Canola oil which was what I had handy in the house. Damn if that didn't give it a great glossy...

Who Made Pipes for Salmon and Gluckstein?

I have a 120 year old Salmon and Gluckstein pipe and was wondering who may have made their pipes then. Anyone know? Thanks.

    Rossi Pipes: What a Bargain

I've been on a straight pipe kick of late and wanted to add 1 with good chamber capacity to it. Thought of Rossi since I'd bought a Rossi Vittoria 320 and found it to be very well made for the money. So, I got a Lucca EX. Rossi Lucca (8803 EX) | Buy Rossi Tobacco Pipes at Smokingpipes -...

    P&C Order Went Just Fine

8 or so days ago ordered a pound of tobacco from P&C which arrived today. No snafus and given shipping delays these days due to Covid, the time in transit was acceptable. I've only ordered from them a handful of times over the years, but, thus far, have never had a problem with them.

    SP Tech Glitch

I was only window shopping to plan my next purchase. It'll probably be fixed before I'm ready to buy, but, just tried to access Smokingpipe's site and got the message that they're using an "unsupported protocol" and cannot provide a secure connection.

    Pioneer Meerschaum Pipes

I was recently posting about an old block meer I'd pulled out to smoke after years in a drawer. Nice bent billiard with acrylic stem. Thought it was a Peterson simply because of the P logo on the stem but got to thinking that nowhere on the pipe are the words Peterson or Ireland or anything...

    Star of the East Gold

Just bought some and had my initial smoke. Orientals remain front and center throughout the smoke with a somewhat floral presence. The Virginia's sweetness is also notably present. The latakia is definitely at condiment levels providing a light smokiness in the background. Strength is a hair...

    Online Paint Color Mixer

Since we seem to have a number of painters on here, some of whom may struggle a bit like I do with color mixing, thought I'd share the best online color mixer I've found which I rely heavily upon. Have been a hobbyist painter for over 20 years, though don't think my skills have improved much...
