    What's Your Best Smoker?

I would say that my Claudio Cavicchi pipes are consistently my favorite smokes followed very closely by my Rad Davis'.

    Jarring Question

No a Smuckers jar is not as good as a Ball, Kerr or Mason jar. I have tried to keep GLP tobacco in the original tin with no success. I would commit all open tobacco tins immediately into a jar.

Dizziness, Rapid Heart Beat, Stomach Growling After Smoking

I know what you went through and I am sure that you suffered from vitamin N buzz. I have been there and while I have never vomited I have had my share of light headedness. I am almost sure that it had to do, as others have stated, that the fact that you had an empty stomach was probably the main...

Show Off Your Ferndown (or Les Woods) Pipes

I have two Ferdowns and I think, hands down, they are the best of the English pipes and that includes my Dunhill.

    Anybody Order Their Coffee Online?

If you like a strong coffee you can order Peet's coffee from www.peets.com. Also, many grocery stores carry Peet's coffee and I have been drinking Major Dickinson for many years.

Found A Cool B&M In Houston

Yes. I live in Sugar Land, TX about 15 miles from the Briar Shoppe in Rice Village. They have only women working behind the counter and a few really do not know that much about their inventory. Finally, they are very expensive. I pay $9.25 for a 50g tin on smokingpipes.com and $13.00 at the...

What Blend Caught You by Surprise?

Gawith's Sam's Flake. I love Gawith's Virginias and also I am very fond of Turkish. Sam's Flake is a marriage between these two tobaccos and is now on my regular rotation.

    Favorite Factory Pipes?

I would say Castello would be my number one factory made pipe. Peterson would be a distant second.

    Select My Next English

Since I have only smoked five of the tobaccos on your list I would go with Balkan Sasieni or Squadron Leader. Both blends Virginias, orientals and enough latakia to made both blends provocative.

    Some Danish Pipes (Image Heavy)

I noticed the Bari. I have one and love it. To bad that they stopped making pipes. You have quite a collection. Thanks for sharing!

    Dull Savinelli's

You may want to use the Dunhill buffing cloth. I use this cloth, which lasts longer than you would think, on all my pipes when I do a thorough cleaning of all my pipes every other month. This cloth leaves a semi-shiny luster and it does not last too long but is "natural" looking.

    Uneven Cake

Often if the draft hole at the bottom of your pipe(s) are not centered the cake will develop unevenly. If you get an expandable reamer you may want to ream your bowl since the cake should be the thickness between a dime and a nickel.

    Favorite Online Vendor

I have done comparative shopping for tobacco blends and you can not beat Smokingpipes.com for prices. Also, I have purchased several estate pipes for smokingpipes.com and they way that they recondition their estates pipes look almost brand new. If you want selection it is either smokingpipes.com...

Prepping Sam Gawith's Full Virginia Flake

I love FVF and I do not cube it or fold these flakes. I simply open the tin and jar these flakes. Before I smoke a bowl I lay the flakes on a paper towel for an hour or so and then simply tear the flakes apart to load my bowl. I have found that if I cube these wonderful robust flakes of FVF it...

    First Taste Of Westminster

I smoked GLP Westminster for a long time. It became too uninteresting to me eventually so I tried both Dunhill's London Mixture and S. Gawith's Squadron Leader and I find these two blends are more satisfying to me then Westminster.

    Any Fans of "Doc Martin"?

I have been watching Doc Martin for several seasons every Thursday evening on PBS. Unfortunately, this season are all reruns since they only make new episodes every two years. However, I like Doc Martin so much I have been watching the reruns this season. I also am hooked on Modern Family.

    Oily pipe bowl???

You do not specify what type of tobacco you are smoking. Often, if you smoking aromatics, the residue in your pipe's bowl is the result of the fillers in aromatic blends. Often this filler appears as "gunk". I would not worry too much about this gunk and would not use Everclear in the pipe's...

Perhaps I Did Something Wrong... Faded Rim

You probably took some of the stain off the rim. Not to worry since you can try to take natural oils from the side of your nose and rub on the pipe's rim and the pipe should darken up. Also, by smoking the rim will darken up naturally without nose oil.

Fall Weather Means Pipe Season is Coming to a Close

I live in a moderate winter climate outside of Houston. The late fall and winter nights are usually around 40 degrees. Since I have to smoke outside I use a portable heater that runs on LPG like the ones you see in restaurants. Works great!
