Getting to the Bottom of the Bowl

I also clean out my ash like cigmaster. This procedure is a little controversial since many experienced pipe smokers claim they never ream ashes until the bowl is completed. Use your own discretion regarding having too much ash.

How do You Pack a Bowl?

For a ribbon cut tobacco blend I fill the tobacco about one third and press firmly with my finger. Then fill the other two thirds with tobacco and leave springy and press lightly. Remember, to ensure that the draw is OK before you light the charring light (first light). If the draw is not OK...

    Summer Pipe Smoking

I know what you mean about hot and humid weather since I live in Sugar Land, TX just outside of Houston. I try to smoke early in the morning (up until 11:00am) since I have to smoke outside on the patio. I have a patio ceiling fan which helps a little. Many nights I can smoke outside, however...

    Tobaccoreviews.com - What A Joke

I use LuxuryTobaccoReviews.com which is a difference web site and is pretty good. No religious reviews.

    Smoking Outside

I smoke on my patio, however, during the summer months I get the heat during the day beginning around 11:00 the mosquitos in the evenings. I have installed a ceiling fan and use a tabletop mosquito coil which really helps. I the winter I have a propane heater. I have made it work during all...

    Nutty Tasting Tobacco

What I think is nutty others may not. What do strawberries taste like? I find a nutty taste in both Dunhill's London Mixture and Gawith's Squadron Leader. Both of these blends are Oriental tobacco forward.

    Radice

I have only one Radice, a bulldog, and really like it. Unfortunately, you don't hear too much about Radice. I found my Radice to be well made, well engineered and a very attractive price to quality quotient.

Is There Such a Thing as Pre-Aged Virginia?

I recently bought some McClelland's 2015 and 2020 both in bulk. These two tobaccos came as moist as FVF which means, of course, that these tobaccos were extremely hard to light. I am going to try the oven method to save these promising tobaccos.

What Would You All Call This Shape

It appears to me as a Dublin sitter since the bowl tappers outward as a Dublin. However, I do see some pot overtones.

    Flavorful Tobacco

Strong flavor for some is so-so flavor for others. What do strawberries taste like. For me I get a lot of flavor from Gawith's Squadron Leader, Hearth & Home's LJ Heart Virginia if you like VaPers and McClelland's Mature Virginia #27.

    Cleaning Mason Jars

I wash my jars thoroughly with a mild combination of detergent and hot water then boil in a light bleach and water or about five minutes. Then I let stand in the strainer for at least 12 hours. Once the jars are thoroughly dried I always place a new lid on the jars and fill with my best tobacco...

McClelland Bulk: 2015 - Virginia / Perique Flake...Comments on the Blend

I smoked a lot of VaPers and I think that 2015 is a very good one. I also like, although not a VaPer McClelland's Mature Virginia #27. Just found Heart & Home's LJ Heart Virginia which is a good VaPer and a little on the sweet side.

Real or Fake? Dunhill Pipe Rack

Whether it is a "real" Dunhill pipe rack or not it is a good deal for $29 if the condition, from the photo, is good.

    Tin vs Bulk addage

I smoke all tins since the selection is so much better. Unfortunately, my favorite blends do not come in bulk. I wish at least some, even one, of my favorites came in bulk so that I could save some money.

Brands or Cuts That Have the Most Flavor.

I have been smoking a pipe for over forty years. I have found most tobacco blends from either McClelland's or GL Pease are quality blends and especially McClelland offers the largest tobacco selection. Since I smoke mainly Virginia blends, and am sensitive to vitamin N, I recommend McClelland's...

Where Do You Find Good Deals on Pipes?

I've had very good success with smokingpipes.com. I have bought four or five estate pipes from them because of their quality grading system and especially how they recondition their estate pipes. I have also bought estate pipes from Ebay which I consider a "turkey" shoot at best.

So I Decided to Keep It And Smoke It (pics)

Beautiful pipe! I especially like the shape and cross grain. Since you smoked these two homemade pipes in a pipe smoking contest the engineering must be very good which I believe is the secnd most important characteristic in a pipe next to the quality of the briar.

    Everyday All Day Smoke?

While I don't have a regular "all day" blend I smoke McClelland's Mature Virginia No. 27 three to one over other of my Virginia blends.

    Varnished Pipe Refinishing Question

About three years ago I bought a Peterson Killarney new. I did not realize that this on-line purchased pipes are varnished pipes. This was the quite a negative surprise. However, I am happy to report that this varnished Killarney pipe has smoked very well and while I was going to initially...
