My New Old Bari Pipe of Denmark -Pic Heavy-

I purchased a Bari lovat on Ebay about a year ago for $35 in almost perfect shape. I did not know anything about this brand but liked the redish stain, size and shape. I have been very pleasantly surprised that this Bari has smoked considerably better than some of more expensive acquisitions...

A Few Pics of My Cellar

You have more tobacco in your cellar than my B & M has on their shelves. I especially like your stash of Dunhill Virginia Flake and Dan's Tobacco Hamborger Veermaster two of my favorites. Quite impressive!

    Latakia Bowl Size

I agree with conventional wisdom and smoke my Latakia blends in a larger bowl pipe such as a group 5 or 6 size.

    Matching Pipe Shape to Personality

I think that when you were able to smoke your pipe in public places the issue of matching your pipe to your personality was fairly important considering your weight, height, age and so forth. However, since smoking your pipe in public places is becoming more difficult each year I personally do...

    Pipe Smoking and Humidity

I also live just outside of Houston where humidity was invented. I smoke mainly Virginias and usually use the fold and stuff technique. During the summer months I find that if I rub out the Virginia tobacco a little finer it becomes easier to light and stay lit which works for me.

Turning A Good Dunhill Into A Great Dunhill ~ Courtesy Walker Pipe Repair

I have heard many good things about Walker Pipe Repair. The only negative news I have heard is that it takes several weeks get your pipe back. Was that your experience?

    For Long Time Pipe Smokers

I usually use kitchen matches to light my pipes unless it is too windy then I rely on my Pipe Zippo. I usually am careful not to fill the bowl with too much tobacco since even if you are careful over loading will cause a burning at the rim.

New Off Fan Unit for Belt Amazing

I am glad the clip-on belt mosquito unit works for you. My wife told me that these units are available at Sam's Club. Since we live just outside of Houston, Texas the mosquitos carry away small children in the summer. Thanks for the endorsement.

    Improvised Tamper

You can always use a ball point pen that has been retracted. The non ink side can be used as a tamper and the ink side could be used as a scoop to remove ashes and tobacco.

Erinmore Flake and McClelland Blue Mountain.

Samuel and Gawith Brown No. 4 Finest Kendal Twist

I am a nicotine wimp. The worst tobacco configurations for a nicotine wimp are coin and rope tobacco since they are very high in vitamin N. I usually smoke flake tobaccos which are OK, however, I stay away from even some of these since certain flake tobaccos are also high in nicotine.

    And Another Cellaring Question

I always buy in tins since the variety of tobaccos is far greater and these tobaccos seem fresher then some of the bulk tobacco that I have ordered. Simply place the tobacco in a 12 oz. Ball, Mason or Kerr jar, the wide mouth jars are more convenient, and place in a dark area with constant...

    Headache, Light Headedness

I have become light headed from nicotine but I have never suffered a headache. I hate the light headed feeling, but I have a friend that like this feeling of course it you knew him you'd understand. If tobacco gave me a headache I would definitely see a doctor since I have not heard of headache...

To Polish Or Not to Polish

The only polish that I use is the Dunhill Polishing Cloth available from smokingpipes.com. This cloth is the safest way to put a sheen on your pipes and it lasts a long time.

    Newbie and Virgin

Welcome to Forum. I am glad that you enjoyed you English blend. You can spend the next several years trying all the English blends since there are so many. Some English blends are oriental forward, others latakia forward and many other English blends have a fair amount of Virginia and perique...

    PAD Vs. TAD

I to believe that tobacco will be increasing in price, however, if I were to begin smoking I would buy myself a moderately price pipe in the $50 to $100 range plus some Missouri cobs. Pipe prices to have been increasing and as a new smoker I would suggest to you to forget the basket pipes and...

    Newbie Cellaring Question

Keep in mind that while the jarring is important so is keeping the tobacco at a relatively constant temperature. I know some very experienced pipe smokers who store their jars in a cooler that you would take on a picnic. They then place this cooler in a dark closet away from the light.

Cause of Ketchup Smell in Some Blends???

I agree with Rothnh. The "catsup" smell is unique to McClelland's Virginias and does not in any way transfer to the taste. McClelland is very well known for their high quality Virginias.

    Tobacco Question

Welcome to this forum. English blends always have latakia in varying quantities but can be Virginia or oriental forward tobaccos. For my money I suggest you try GLP Westminster, Dunhill's London Mixture or McClelland's Blue Mountain.

    What Percent Pipes Racked?

I have three pipe racks. One is only six pipes, another holds eight pipes and a third rack 24 pipes. All my pipes are held in my pipe racks and none in drawers, boxes or any other storage. I am running out of pipe rack and will be looking for a fourth pipe rack.
