    Wet Smoke Question

All of us probably have had the same experience with a pipe that smokes where moisture accumulates at the bottom. As already mentioned you need to consider the draw of your pipe. Is this pipe draft restricted and is the hole at the bottom of the bowl centered. Finally, smoking a flake tobacco...

    Wear and Tear Versus Pristine

I usually try to doo a thorough cleaning about every 15 or so smokes. Not mentioned here, but I notice just after a thorough cleaning the tobacco tastes better in a clean pipe especially my few Peterson System pipes the mortise gets pretty ugly inside a takes awhile to clean with alcohol or...

Since I have to smoke outside I enjoy several cups of Peet's Major Dickenson coffee made in a French press and a pipe full of McClelland's Mature Virginia No. 27.

    Matches?

I like to use the Diamond kitchen matches. However, I have to smoke on the patio and our backyard is open and often gets too windy so I am forced to use my Zippo lighter. I prefer wooden matches when I use them.

    Nicotine

I fess up I am very sensitive to nicotine in pipe tobacco whether after a meal or before, makes no difference. Some pipe smokers do not mind the light headed or queasy feeling, however, I do. I earnestly try to stay clear of many blends that affect my state of mind. Often, I can ease up on the...

    Something Similar to Haddo's Delight

You may want to try McClelland's, who unquestionably offer the foremost Virginia blends, Mature Virginia No. 27. I have smoked Haddo's Delight and found it rather bland since it has all "natural tobaccos". If you want a nice tobacco that will provide the fruity taste that you identify with...

    Smoking in a "Cigar" Lounge

I have a cigar and pipe tobacco shop near my office. I have gone into this store several times to buy my brother-in-law some cigars. While there a several cigar smokers I have never discovered a pipe smoker in this shop. Personally, when I just walk through this shop to buy a few cigars for my...

Dunhill Flake Holy Cow and Some Help!

I like Dunhill Flake very much since I can not take too much vitamin N and Dunhill Flake never has affected me. You may want to try McClelland's Matured Virginia No. 27 since this strong tasting Virginia is rather light in vitamin N. Finally, for a pleasant tasty Virginia with the taste of fruit...

    Charatan Pipe

I love pots like yours. These pot shapes are not real popular with the younger guys. However, I have found that my pots smoke cooler and are great for latakia blends. Enjoy!

    Tobacco Preferences

I will weigh in on McClelland since they offer such variety even within the same general categories of tobacco. However, GLP, Gawith and even McConnell dominate my cellar. I have tried C&D blends and could never get into any of their offerings.

Jerry the Wizard's Lecture to Me at the B&M

Great story of your experience with your B&M. I think that many of us envy you and your relationship with your B&M proprietor. Also, I pleased to hear that you bought an Ascorti because you don't hear that much about a pipe that the Tinder Box used to feature. I have an Ascorti New Dear that I...

    Samuel Gawith's Full Virginia Flake

I smoke several Virginia Flakes and FVF has been one of my favorites for a long time. It needs to be dried since out of the tin it is too moist. With a little drying time it delivers a full bodied smoke that never bites and is not too high in vitamin N. Whether rubbed out, folded or somewhere in...

    Cheap Pipes

All good advise, but for my money I'd go for a Peterson which can be obtained for under $100.

    Smoking a Bulldog Pipe

I find that the large flat bowl of my bulldogs is great for smoking Virginias. Pots are also another shape for Virginias.

Any Experience Using Olive Oil to Polish Briars?

I use extra virgin olive oil on my vulcanite stems when I perform my monthly though pipe cleaning. However, I have never even thought of using on my briar since I think that I would close the pores and prevent the briar to breathe.

    Fritz Becker

Old Cajun: Beautiful pipe I especially like the stem and the rustication. I know the history of Fritz's escape from Germany's socialist democratic party under Hitler during WWII. It is a good thing that Fritz made it to freedon in Italy so that we can enjoy his and his son Paulo's pipes. Enjoy!

    Bent Or Straight? Your Opinions

Actually, I in the middle. Most of my 35 pipes are half bents. I find this configuration to be the most comfortable shape since I have to smoke on the patio and I read 98% of the time. Half bents have all the benefits of full bent pipes and are easier to clean.
