Anniversary Kake Has Me Confused About Perique.

I agree with Perique that St. James Woods from McClelland has a more peppery taste. This blend is my favorite VaPer.

Four New Samuel Gawith Virginia Flakes

I to hope these new Sam Gawith blends come to the States. I have always thought that McClelland and Gawith use some of the best Virginias.

    Peterson P-lip

I have six Peterson and three have a P-Lip. For me, the flavor is the same between the P-Lip and fish tail. P-Lips are fine and easy to smoke, however, while I like P-Lips the only issue for me is cleaning. It is difficult to get a regular pipe cleaner through a P-Lip since the whole is too...

    My First - Dunhill Flake

Dunhill Flake is a wonderful medium body Virginia and easy to smoke because it stays lit. Enjoy!

Finally! Found a Pipe For Capstan Blue

I regularly smoke Hamborger Veermaster in my Virginia pipes. Recently, I bought a few tins of Capstan Blue Flake which is a good tobacco which I like, but Capstan Flake does not have the body and taste of my regular smoke. I have about half of my pipe dedicated to Virginias and half to latakia...

Bowl Shape or Briar, Which Has a Greater Effect On a Smoke?

There is no question in my mind that the quality of the briar has everything to do with the quality of the smoke. I have always thought that the size of the bowl, while somewhat important, has been blown out of proportion and I personally do not think that the size or shape of the bowl for each...

My First Morning Smoke With Coffee I Swear I'm In Heaven

Peet's Major Dickasons coffee and McClelland's St. James Flake, on the patio, is a great way to begin the day.

    List of Tobaccos to Try

Gawith Squadron Leader for a tasty light English Dan Tobacco Hamborger Veermaster for a great tasty Virginia Flake with a tad of Burley McClelland St. James Flake for a very good Virginia and perique tobacco McCranie Red Flake for a light introduction to Virginia tobacco

    My First Ferndown

Congratulations on both your anniversary and for buying a Ferndown. I have two Ferndowns and a half bent bulldog and a half bent apple. I think for the money you cannot do better than a Ferndown. Enjoy!

The Science of The Open Draw

Rick Newcome, in his first book 'In Search of Pipe Dreams' actually devotes an entire chapter to open draw. He offers a drawing and measurements for all the pipes he buys to open up the draw. Personally, I have only one pipe of my over 40 pipes that has a tight draw. This one pipe...

My Homemade Utilitarian 40 Pipe Rack

The pipe rack looks great. I have never seen a rack that holds so many pipes. Great job!

    That Must-Have English Blend

Squadron Leader, Westminster and Dunhill London Mixture get my vote for medium English blends.

    Funny How My Tastes Change.

Do not worry! The concept of pipe smoking is to try different blends and settle on a main tobacco blend while still trying others. Often I think that I have found my main smoke only to move my primary smoke to another blend. That is one of the things that is great about pipe smoking is the...

Squadron Leader vs Early Morning Pipe

Personally, I have smoked several tins of EMP and many tins of Squadron Leader and there is no comparison; Squadron Leader wins hands down. I do not think that you can beat the taste of the Virginias in a Gawith blend then added with flavorful Orientals topped off with a wee bit of Latakia to...

    Hearth & Home

Hearth and Home AJ's Vaper is a good smoke.

    Virginia with training wheels?

If you want a simple Virginia with a lot of flavor and fairly mild try Dan Tobacco Hamborger Veermaster. This has been a fairly staple go-to smoke for some time. I would try this since it never very little if any casing and it is obtainable unlike many of the other Virginias from time to time.

What Celebrity Could Spike Pipe Sales?

Unfortunately, all of these names are wishful thinking although fun. If any of these well known and respected people ever took up smoking a pipe they would most likely lose fans. However, if these same celebrities were seen smoking cigarettes in the magazines (People, US or any other fan...

    Underwhelmed by Haddo's?

I usually smoke vapers or straight Virginias and found Haddo very uninteresting a generally a disappointment. I have smoked many of GLP other tobaccos with very good success.

Please Recommend Some *Sweet* (Less Hay-Like, Non-Aro) Virginias.

I would suggest: Hamborger Veermaster (flake) by Dan Tobacco Dunhill Flake McClelland St. James Woods Rattray Old Gowrie

    Under-Rated Pipes

I second the mention of Randy Wiley as a wonderful smoker. A little pricy but a great smoker. Another pipe not mentioned because they also are a little pricy are the Claudio Cavicchi pipes. I have five of Claudio's pipes and every one is a beautiful smoker however you do not hear his name much.
