    Latakia; Yea or Nay?

I love latakia blends, always have, always will. However, if you want a great blend without the latakia but with great Virginias and Turkish try Gawith's Sam's Blend. I smoke more of Sam's Blend then my myriad of latakia blends.

    Finally Some Good Flavor!

If you like Blackhouse you may like McClellands Blue Mountain which is delightful.

    McClelland 5100 Red Cake

Red Cake by McClelland or by McMurtry which I think is better must be smoked very slowly or it will bite. Also, if you commit it to a jar it smokes better with some age on it say about a year or two.

Esoterica Tobaccos Note: Moan and Groan

I know what you mean about Esoterica. I have given up on them and I smoke several of the Sam Gawith blends since they are easier to obtain. If you want some of the Esoterica blends try Iwan Reis in Chicago since you can leave your email address for any tobacco blend out of stock and they will...

Struggling With Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe

You may want to try Dunhill's London Mixture which is a little more interesting than EMP. London Mixture is a combination of Virginia, a little latakia and Turkish tobaccos. The latakia is not dominant and the Virginia and Turkish really shin through the blend.

    Moving With Pipes

The last time that I moved I wrapped each pipe in a single layer of bubble wrap and used masking tape to close the opening. If you have the pipe sleeves that the pipes came in put them on then use the bubble wrap. For my jars of tobacco I used the same method as described for the pipes.

    Squadron Leader

Squadron Leader is my go to tobacco when I want to enjoy a latakia blend. Being a Virginia tobacco smoker I enjoy the strong essence of Virginia and pared with the Turkish and latakia it provides me considerable satisfaction. I think that some people think Squadron Leader from Gawith has a...

    Reloading a Pipe.

I have tried to smoke the same pipe for two or three smokes. However, the pipe get too wet at the bottom of the bowl even though I smoke non aromatic blends. Usually, I smoke once and then trade pipes. I really do not understand how a pipe can be smoked all day unless the pipe is cleaned a few...

Black House, Blue Mountain, And Balkan Luxury Blend 957

Anthony: I to have smoked both Blackhouse and Blue Mountain. While I like Blackhouse I find Blue Mountain to be considerably more provocative, complex and satisfying to my taste. I usually smoke Squadron Leader, I treasure Blue Mountain as a special treat from time to time. Thank you for your...

    Bowl Coatings and Your Fingers

The simple answer is no. The natural oils from your hands and fingers will create a patina on the briar. If I were you I would have relatively clean hands while smoking your pipes. Finally, when you thoroughly clean your pipes after 10 to 15 smokes it is a good idea to invest in a Dunhill...

Struggling With Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe

If EMP does not work for you try either Dunhill's London Mixture or my favorite Samual Gawith's Squadron Leader. Both of these blends are oriental forward with limited amounts of latakia.

    MacBaren Virginia No. 1

If you want a very good Virginia which is rich yet on the mild to mid range try Dan Tobaccos Hamborger Veermaster. This wonderful flake with a tad of burly can be smoked all day. I have tried maybe 15 Virginia flakes and while some are good I find Hamborger Veermaster is the best of the bunch.

    Searching for the One

Welcome to the forum. Beginning to smoke a pipe is very exciting. I give any advice is to take things slowly and enjoy the experience. Beginning with a corn cob is a great idea since it only leaves you with what tobacco to smoke rather than the kind of pipe and tobacco. You may want to get...

VA's Flavour Last Longer In Your Pipe?

I smoke outside. Occasionally, I leave my lit pipe for five or ten minutes while I go into the house. I smoke VA tobacco and I swear even after ten minutes my Hambor Veermaster Virginia has already begun to lose it's taste.

    Help with VaPers

On another large forum the top vaper is McConnel Scottish Cake. I have tried Scottish Cake and it does beat my favorite vaper that I have been smoking McClelland's St James Wood.

H&H Black House vs. McC Blue Mountain

I have smoked both Blackhouse and Blue Mountain. I agree with others that say they are different. I found Blackhouse to be more oriental forward than Blue Mountain. Personally, I like Blue Mountain better than Blackhouse since it is more interesting to me. I have several other options to smoking...

    Smoking with Tongue Bite?

Tongue bite is usually caused by either smoking too fast and/or the tobacco since bite more than others and finally, the packing of the tobacco. Tongue bite can definitely cause the tobacco and any others types of tobacco to lose there taste. Try smoking less until your tongue bite heals...

Jason All the advice given you is good advise. Just as you savored your cigars you can also savor your pipe with a myriad of tobaccos. However, you need to slow down since pipe smoking is a contemplative endeavor. You did not mention what activity you normally do while smoking your pipe. Try...
