Bad Peterson Pipes - From Where?

I have heard many complaints about Petersons on a few forums especially over the past two or three years. I have nine Petersons a few of which I bought from a B&M. Most of my Petersons were purchased from smokingpipes.com. My wife recently bought me a Royal Irish from smokingpipes.com which is...

Trying to figure out what I like.

Coty: Welcome to the forum. As a newer pipe smoker what I did not here about is the pipe that you are using to try these new tobacco blends. Assuming that the pipe is OK what you need to do is get yourself some mild light English blends. I would suggest that you may like Samual Gawith's Squadron...

    Orlik Golden Sliced

I really like OGS. I have been smoking it for some time. The difference between Dunhill Flake and OGS is that OGS has a small percentage of burley in the flakes while DF no burley. The taste between DF and OGS is quite different. I prefer OGS more than DF. However, both are fine flakes.

    Filter or no filter?

No filters for me. Most pipe smokers admit that filters are too restrictive to the pipe's draft.

Looking for the right English blend

For a wonderful light English I would highly recommend both McClelland's Bombay Court which is a delightful oriental forward blend with a very small amount of latakia and some very rich Virginias. This is a sleeper blend that I can not understand is not more popular. The second blend for a newer...

    Older Becker Lovat Arrives

Great looking pipe. I have always wanted a Paolo Becker made pipe. But with over 30 pipes another expensive pipe is hard for even me to rationalize.

    How many pipes?

Corn cobs are a great way to get started and for try different types and blends of tobacco. Just a word of caution. If you smoke an aros in a briar pipe this type of tobacco usually leaves some ghosting (residue in the cake of your pipe). Therefore, if you do obtain briar pipes you may want to...

Everclear & comparable liquors for pipe cleaning?

I, like puffdoggie use Everclear to clean my pipes and then dip pipe cleaners in Wild Turkey for the sweetness and I also, have some Wild Turkey for myself.

    ESCUDO

My Escudo does not last enough for it to age!

    Gawith Best Brown Flake

I love Gawith's BBF. There was a question on another pipe forum about what tobaccos do you always come back to when trying other blends. My response was: Gawith's BBF McClelland's Blackwood Flake Gawith's Squadron Leader

Do Expensive Pipes Really Smoke Better?

You should read Fred Hanna new book, "The Perfect Smoke." Hanna's book is a very good read and his conclusion is that it is all about the briar. Given good pipe engineering, it is all about the briar that the pipe is made. While he says that price is not the only factor he does say that price or...

    Ageing in Mason Jars Question

Another way to speed up the aging process is to cook the tobacco while still in the tin. Set the oven on bake and cook it on 250 to 300 degrees for four to five hours. Let cool and then commit to a wide mouth Mason, Ball or Kerr jar. This cooking process mellows out the smoke of most tobacco...

Can You Smoke The Same Pipe All Day?

Usually, most pipe smokers rest their pipes for at least one day after one maybe two bowls. The reason for the rest is to dry out the pipe from your saliva and from the natural tobacco burning moisture. I imagine that some days you can smoke one pipe all day, however, it is important to pass...

    How Do You Pack Escudo?

I simply place two coins in the palm of my hand and use the other hand to rub out and stuff into the bowl. Most of my pipes take two and half coins. Pack loosely and take your thumb and press lightly until the tobacco is just a little springy. I bake most of my tobacco tins at 250 to 300...

    Tobacco search

Very often B & M purchase tobacco directly from Tobacco companies and the B&M owners will name these tobaccos themselves. Therefore, unless you recall the B&M it would be hard to replicate the same tobacco.

    Flakes to Try

I would try Gawith's Full Virginia Flake, Dunhill's Flake, Gawith's Best Brown Flake (more like a cake) and Erinmore's Flake (not mixture) and finally Dan Tobacco Hamborger Veermaster for a flavorful Flake.

    Machine or Handmade Conundrum

I would normally go every time for the artisan pipe. However, given the price difference some recognized machine made pipes are usually a better value. A good example is the artisan Poul Winslow which is a featured seller of pipes on Smokingpipes.com . His machine made pipes are between $115 to...

    Question About Virginia Tobacco

I suggest that you smoke what you like. The questions regarding Virginias leads me to believe that you find nonvirginias more agreeable to your taste. You will know when it is the "right" time to give Virginias a try once again, perhaps a few years. I have smoked a pipe for 30+ years and only...

Getting the most flavor from a smoke

I occasionally blow smoke out of my nose. However, I never "French inhale" and usually only blow smoke through my nose once, maybe twice a bowl smoke. For me it does kind of enhances the taste of the tobacco, however, I think if you do it too often you would miss the more important taste on your...

    Modern Era Sasieni Pipes?

I have bought many estate pipes since I am interested in older briar which I prefer to the newer often less superior new pipes. I have had considerable success purchasing estate pipes from smokingpipes.com. If I saw an older Sasieni 4dot in pretty good condition (smokingpipes.com rates the...
