    Drunken Poker Part-2!

I posted about my last pipe I was working on. I called it the "Drunken Poker" It was a pipe I was making for someone and it looked great, but had a couple bad flaws so will end up being a shop pipe. The person I was making that one for liked the shape, so I have started "Drunken Poker" Part-2...

    Screw-in Stem Replacment

You would need the screw in part and install it in the new stem.

    Smoking Impression: Uncle Arthur Cutty

Congrats on the new pipe, and a fine looking one at that.

    First Carved Pipe

Nice work for a first. Keep at it, but be warned........... Pipe making can be very addicting once you've made and smoked your first. :)

SHOT Show next week. Any other forum guys going to be there?

Was going to ask what the SHOT show was, but decided instead to do a search. Looks like a good one and something I'd like. But alas, way too far for me to travel....... Enjoy yourself.

    pipe repair

You need a reamer........ Many of the online B&Ms can fix you up. Or you may want to send the pipe out and have it repaired and cleaned. Either way, pick up a reamer. You'll need one sooner or later.

    Beginning Pipe Making

If you Just want to make a pipe to see if you enjoy it and for some practice at shaping by all means other woods are fine. If its to really get the feel of making pipes and something you might want to stick with keep in mind what Unclearthur says " briar is an entirely different critter"

    Another (Block with a Flaw)

Briarbird, cracks and flaws are just the nature of the beast. Every time I run into one I think about what the big name pipe makers charge for their pipes and I realize that part of that price is the flawed blocks that we never know about. Long as it will smoke, no harm, no foul. You now have...

    Tamps? What makes one better?

There are as many types and brands of tampers as there are pipes and pipe makers, both past and present. I've found that the cheap aluminum nails with the tamp on one end and the spoon on the other work great for me. I prefer cheap, because I'm always misplacing them. I actually purchased a big...

    Money In Making Briar?

I've had fun as well dgerwin and some of my mistakes actually turned out as positives, but still cost me some hard earned money that could have been better spent. Also, as has been said over and over, smoking a pipe you made yourself is a fantastic feeling. Selling a pipe that you made followed...

    Your guys' carve your owns?

Wow did I ever make mistakes in that post above. The spelling especially. Guess that's what I get for posting from my phone. :) Repost: Briar has working qualities that no other wood can compare too and even two different briar blocks can work differently. I only ever made one pipe from a...

    Money In Making Briar?

This could actually be two fold as far as making money. I only hope that I can explain this the way I'm thinking about it. First, a person can make a bit of money making pipes, if and when your making becomes good enough that others are even intersted in purchasing them. There is a lot of...

    Your guys' carve your owns?

I agree on practice and used pine to practice my drilling. But when it comes to shaping practice on a wood that can be smoked. That way you dont completely waste your time. I practiced on walnut before moving on to briar.. Briar has working qualities that no other wood can compare too and even...

    Sharing another pipe I made

Nice work and some decent grain as well. Thanks for sharing your new pipe with us!

Bare minimum tools needed for pipe crafting

I know it's not a tool, but lots of patience is also something any pipe maker needs. I try to have at least a couple pipes in the works at any one time, that way if I become disgusted/at an impass with one, I can pick up another and take off from there. As said, if your new to this and just...

    How Best to Cellar?

I use a chest of drawers to store my tins and have old kitchen cabinets mounted above it for my jars of bulk.

Tamper made from a Linkmans 9719
