    Crash and Burn!

Well, not actually! With the unusually warm weather we have been having, I've been riding my Yamaha Majesty (400cc) scooter a bit. Had it out on Monday, as it was in the 60's, and went over to a buddies. It's about a 40 mile ride. I was getting close and made a turn off a state highway onto a...

It Was Nice While It Lasted

Probably lucky they put you back on at all. Holding out an extra week was their way of showing you who signs the checks. Glad your back to work and will be making a buck again. With my job, I make good scratch when I work, but at times have gone 2-3 months with no work. So I know how you feel.

    New handmade for me

Briarbird, you need to get yourself a tapered 5/32 bit for your airway in the stems. Using different sizes will work, but causes steps which can then cause turbulence in the stem. This in turn can cause a build up of moisture in the stem. I like that pipe, it's just about like a Bing Crosby.

St. Louis Gateway Pipe Show 2012

Well, I didn't get in the hotel there for show members. I do however travel for a living and have plenty of points saved up for LaQuinta and just booked two free nights a few miles away. Best part, the nights there are free. So I'll see you all at the hotel the night before the show in the...

Have U Ever Tried Smoking Pipe at the Shore

I travel for a living and have smoked on the shores on both sides of the US with no problems what so ever, except I don't get to do it often enough. :)

St. Louis Gateway Pipe Show 2012

Guess you snooze, you lose. They are out of rooms at QI for the show. Guess I'll be driving up on Saturday instead, unless I book something somewhere else close to the show.

St. Louis Gateway Pipe Show 2012

mattia76, I'll hopefully have a few of my own making, estate pipes, a few cleaning supplies, hopefully pipe cleaners, estate pipe racks and a few other things. I usually share a table with my buddy, who has his own table next to me this year and will have the same things. tab812, There is...

St. Louis Gateway Pipe Show 2012

Pipe cleaners from an arts and crafts store

Most craft store pipe cleaners I've seen aren't cotton and thus less absorbent, making them less than desireable for cleaning a pipe. But as said, they will work in a pinch. Ace, your getting a good deal on your cleaners, as they aren't much cheaper in bulk from the supplier.

    HELP!!!!

You'll have to get the oxidation off first. I do this with 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper keeping it wet while sanding. Then the only true way to get that glassy shine you probably want (And I want as well) I use a buffer with white diamond and then I add a coat of carnuba on the stem to keep the...

Second pipe. First "High End". Any experience?

Congrats on the new pipe. As for smell............. The first thing I learned about pipe tobacco "It never tastes like it smells and never smells like it tastes" I tend to smoke the stronger blends such as Balkans and English blends and although I love the smell, the wife thinks they all...

    My Den

Nice to have such a place you can call your own........ I have two such places, one is my pipe making workshop I built in the garage and the other is my office in the house. While I enjoy them both, neither is set up or as tidy as yours. Congrats and enjoy. Thanks for sharing with us as well.

Sharing a recent poker I made

BB, your doing very well for such a short time in your new hobby. And also making your own stems already..... Very nice. I use delrin in all my stems, even the premade blanks, it works well and is great if you don't have a lathe for turning your own tenons. Keep up the good work.

How to wax a rusticated pipe?

I've buffed rusticated in the past with carnuba and as already mentioned, used very little wax and a very light touch. They turned out great using that method.

    Drunken Poker Part-2!

Thanks for the positive remarks, I sure appreciate them. Spartan, it's not as deep as it looks from the outside. Relights should be no problem at all.

    Drunken Poker Part-2!

From chucking the block into the lathe till you see what I have now, I have about 4 hours or so time in it. But I don't really get in a hurry. That includes drilling a stem for delrin and fitting it to the pipe. Of course I did this just to line things up as I shaped the pipe. I'll be installing...

    Buffer

I'm using an older motor off an old Craftsman table saw. Runs at 1750. I mounted all my sanding discs and buffing wheels on carriage bolts and then made myself a long aluminum arbor that is threaded so I can quickly and easily change between wheels and discs.

    Buffer

I've used a grinder at over 3000rpm and now use an electric motor at 1750rpm. I've not had any problem burning the stems or pipes. The trick is to hold the part firmly (To avoid making a rocket of them) and use a light touch on the buffing wheel. Also, when doing stems, avoid too much contact...
