I was highly tempted to buy some of it when it was up for auction...but since I have no experience (yet) with making pipes, I thought it would just be a shame for me to ruin some nice old briar. Glad to see it go to somebody with the tools and talent to make good use of it! -

Post Christmas PAD and TAD!
Don't beat yourself up over it! I've picked up a couple additional estate pipes over the past couple weeks as well (and still have my eye on another)! Picked up a Kaywoodie Colt Yacht mid-December and a Sasieni 4 Dot Bulldog the day after Christmas!- bytor

I've got a couple that I really enjoy (good smokers at a great value). The only negative in my opinion are the stems. I just don't really like the feel of them... -

Currently, the new scanners only reveal what is at skin level (i.e., they do not show what may be hidden in body cavities). Bubbling on the Pipe Finish?
My savinelli did the same thing. I removed the remaining clear coat (whatever it was) with some rubbing alcohol and finished with 1500 grit. I doubt that the stain will need to be redone unless the bare briar was treated with something prior to being stained. Strip the clear coat/varnish... -

No guarantees when it comes to the TSA. I've traveled with a standard Bic style lighter many times in recent years, but it was confiscated on one of my return trips recently because it wasn't a mini lighter. I might have been able to argue it, but I didn't want any additional hassle. Of...- bytor

Antique pipe set.
Very nice indeed! I've drooled over pics of that set in a smooth finish many times. I have always viewed the horn as more of a zulu -
Help with tenon
Zooming in on the pic a bit...it looks like this is nothing to worry about. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the tenon has a raised ring on it (maybe 1/3 from one end) and has simply pulled out of the stem. Push that sucker back in. -
Evolving As A Pipe Smoker
An FYI about the wind caps...they don't really fit small chambered pipes very well. Yeah, you can bend the tabs easy enough and sort of get the thing to fit...but sometimes not very well. I usually just cup my hand loosely over the bowl if it is a bit too breezy...works well and helps keep your...- bytor

Waxing lyrical - tips
IMO - Paragon is good if you don't have a buffing wheel...but it doesn't compare to carnauba and a buffing wheel.- bytor
