mystery mix in my sasieni bulldog

Thanks! It's a great little smoker. A little unbalanced, so it tries to tip over sometimes.

    Newest one finished

I was highly tempted to buy some of it when it was up for auction...but since I have no experience (yet) with making pipes, I thought it would just be a shame for me to ruin some nice old briar. Glad to see it go to somebody with the tools and talent to make good use of it!

Nice work Arthur! Fantastic grain! Are all these recent pipes from the briar you got off e-bay from Germany?

Easy and Great Looking Pipe Tamper.

That is a fantastic idea! I've got a bunch of pipes that could very well "suffer" the same fate! Very creative! @Ejames: What did you use for the tamper head?

    Post Christmas PAD and TAD!

Don't beat yourself up over it! I've picked up a couple additional estate pipes over the past couple weeks as well (and still have my eye on another)! Picked up a Kaywoodie Colt Yacht mid-December and a Sasieni 4 Dot Bulldog the day after Christmas!

I've got a couple that I really enjoy (good smokers at a great value). The only negative in my opinion are the stems. I just don't really like the feel of them...

Czech tool on and the TSA

Currently, the new scanners only reveal what is at skin level (i.e., they do not show what may be hidden in body cavities). Sooner or later, somebody is going to stuff an explosive up their rectum and try to detonate. So when the TSA decides everybody is going to have a body cavity search...Are...

    Bubbling on the Pipe Finish?

My savinelli did the same thing. I removed the remaining clear coat (whatever it was) with some rubbing alcohol and finished with 1500 grit. I doubt that the stain will need to be redone unless the bare briar was treated with something prior to being stained. Strip the clear coat/varnish...

Czech tool on and the TSA

No guarantees when it comes to the TSA. I've traveled with a standard Bic style lighter many times in recent years, but it was confiscated on one of my return trips recently because it wasn't a mini lighter. I might have been able to argue it, but I didn't want any additional hassle. Of...

The Joke Thread: Not Safe For Work (NSFW)

Jeez...I'm pretty sure my head would have exploded watching that. This is exactly why I avoid drive-up anything if at all possible. I would much rather park and go inside.

You know you are addicted to coffee if ...

Oddly enough... I frequently find that if I'm having trouble getting to sleep, a nice hot cup of coffee will often help! I'm pretty sure I don't drink too much coffee!

    Well, my stinger snapped.

Ooooh.....that must have hurt something fierce! After some of the posts in the previous thread about soaking the stem in bleach, I am absolutely amazed that nobody else has made an offhand comment about the title of this thread!

    Question

42 is the everything according to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (Douglas Adams) An excerpt from the book: "a group of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings demand to learn the Ultimate Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything from the supercomputer, Deep...

    GBD

I didn't realize that GBDs weren't being made any more. My first pipe was a GBD. Still smokes quite well and is still one of my favorites.

    Antique pipe set.

Very nice indeed! I've drooled over pics of that set in a smooth finish many times. I have always viewed the horn as more of a zulu

    Help with tenon

Zooming in on the pic a bit...it looks like this is nothing to worry about. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the tenon has a raised ring on it (maybe 1/3 from one end) and has simply pulled out of the stem. Push that sucker back in.

    Evolving As A Pipe Smoker

An FYI about the wind caps...they don't really fit small chambered pipes very well. Yeah, you can bend the tabs easy enough and sort of get the thing to fit...but sometimes not very well. I usually just cup my hand loosely over the bowl if it is a bit too breezy...works well and helps keep your...

    Waxing lyrical - tips

IMO - Paragon is good if you don't have a buffing wheel...but it doesn't compare to carnauba and a buffing wheel.
