    Latakia - I Just Don't "Get" It

Shortyeastcoast - I'm also not a big fan of Latakia blends even though over many, many years of pipe smoking I've tried to learn to appreciate blends containing Latakia. I also am in the "all or nothing" group whereby the Latakia is the only component of the blend I taste. The only Latakia...

    Aromatic Latakia Blends

Uhle's Raider Blend is a tasty aromatic with a bit of Latakia in the blend. I'm not a big fan of either cherry blends and not especially keen on Latakia in general but Raider Blend just hit the spot for me.

That Unlikely Blend That You Enjoy

Uhle's Raider Blend. Didn't care for most cherry blends I've tried in the distant past and not big on Latakia blends but Raider Blend is a great example of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. Really tasty and I was surprised I liked it.

    Peterson Irish Oak

I really like Peterson's Irish Oak but find it's just a bit too robust to be a regular blend for me. Best when sipped from a small-bowled pipe - yum!

Seeking Opinions on Fribourg & Treyer Blends

"Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'll add a tin or two of the Golden and Vintage to next month's TAD. Has anyone ever had a problem with these F&T square tins losing their vacuum seal? If I like the Cut Virginia Plug and the Special Brown I might start stocking up." My last tin of Cut...

Seeking Opinions on Fribourg & Treyer Blends

The only Fribourg & Treyer blends I've tried so far are Cut Blended Plug, Special Brown Flake, and Golden Mixture. I thought those three were so good that I subsequently picked up Blackjack, Cut Virginia Plug, Evans Blend, Vanners Mixture, & Vintage & those blends are currently aging in my...

Your thoughts on Mac Baren's Symphony

MacBaren Symphony is one of my favorites and has been for years. Maybe it's just the familiarity since I've smoked it ever since my long-ago college days, but it's sort of a "comfort food" pipe tobacco for me. A nice blend of Virginia and burley that's easy to smoke and, if sipped slowly, can...

    Uhle's Rise - Father's Day Blend

This past summer I was gifted some Uhle's Rise - Father's Day Blend. This is one of the best pipe tobaccos I've tried in quite a while. It's a VA blend that smokes like a dream - easy to keep lit and burns very clean to a fine ash. A delicious blend that makes me wish I were better at...

    Good Bulk Virginia

Stokkebye Virginia Long Cut is a cheap but good mild VA that should be what you're looking for. Or you can never go wrong with McClelland 5100 or 2015.

    New Peretti Order

Park Square is terrific. In the next few weeks they'll most likely be bringing out their Thanksgiving Day, which is definitely worth trying. If you like aromatics, I think Ebony, Blend 432, and Coffee Blend are also well worth your while. Have you tried the Cuban Mixture yet? I think it's...

    Your "Go To" Tobacco

I don't have a "permanent" go-to pipe tobacco since I always have a number of different tobaccos open at any one time. If I had to pick one for right now, however, it would probably be MacBaren Plumcake. When the current open tin of Plumcake is finished I'm sure I'll have a different go-to!

Which Aromatics Don't Have a Strong Aftertaste?

[I really want to be able to enjoy a yummy vanilla or caramel-scented tobacco] Dan Tobacco Milonga and pipesandcigars.com Trout Stream are worth considering. I haven't noticed any chemical aftertaste with either of these delicious blends

    Uhle's Raider Blend

Last month when I visited Uhle's terrific B&M the fine folks there gave me a generous sample of their Raider Blend to try. This is a cherry cavendish blend "with a spec" of Latakia. Apparently the Milwaukee School of Engineering pipe club picked this blindly from a bunch of possible new Uhle's...

Halloween Tobacco Blends (Blenders Pay Attention)

Last year Uhles made a Halloween blend, but I never got around to trying it. Wonder if they're going to release it again this year...

    Robert McConnell's Glen Piper

I really like Robert McConnell's Glen Piper. It's mainly a Virginia base with what I suspect is a Virginia cavendish and just a hint of Perique. The last tin I had was pretty well aged so I didn't get much fruitiness from it but I'm a bit taste bud challenged & could've missed any subtle...

    One Bulk to Stock

In my humble cellar, the largest volume of bulk tobaccos I have stashed is Stokkebye's Luxury Navy Flake & McClelland 5100

Mac Baren's Plumcake - Why Do I Like It?

For me, MacBaren Plumcake is one of those blends that just has that unique something extra that make it deliciously different from many of the other baccys I enjoy. It's the blend that's the difference - an example of the whole is more than the sum of the parts.

    Some Questions About L.J. Peretti

All the Peretti blends I've tried have been great. While I suspect the majority of their baccys are sold as bulk, they do sell their blends in an 8 oz. paint can type tin that is good for aging. Cuban Mixture is one of the most complex blends I've ever tried and I'd highly recommend it.
