This isn't a post about singing the praises of Mac Baren's Plumcake - there are already a couple of other threads for that. Rather, I'm posting to try to learn a little more about my hobby and to understand what types of tobaccos are in a particular blend and why I may or may not like them.
Plumcake is most definitely in the "like" list, in fact I think it's just become my new favorite. It had a wonderfully strong flavor, sweet without being cloying with just a hint of dried fruit. Oh, and lets not forget the rum. An amazing flavor that didn't taste at all chemical or artificial - something that tends to turn me off of most of the aromatics I've tried so far. Did I mention that I really, really like this stuff? :D
The question is, why? What's in Plumcake that's not in the other non-aro baccy's I've tried so far (Peterson's Irish Oak, Stokkebye's English Oriental Supreme and Luxury Bullseye Flake, Escudo, and three flavors of Frog Morton, although they're latakia based so they don't really count)? I noticed that Plumcake doesn't list any perique, and that it's also the only one I've tried with significant amounts of burley in it. Does the burley vs. perique make that big of a difference?
Thoughts, anyone?
