Sorry, I should have explained the question better. I have been told that the 'gold' rondelle is just gold colored aluminum and that the gold wears off to show bare aluminum. And the 'normal' ones would be aluminum. I was just curious about the silver mounting and wondered if they went so far...- nevadablue

Interesting thread. I have handled a LOT of canning jars, having grown up in a family who 'put up' food in jars and done so myself. I have NEVER seen a jar lid with stripped threads. Very odd. Smoking The Best Is Not Expensive
I had some nice cigars when I lived in Nicaragua. Cigars make me loopy though. Unfortunately, we didn't get to make the planned visit to the cigar factory. The economy crashed and the job ended... sigh. (November '08)- nevadablue
