    Boswell's "Hooligans" Meet Up

I want to really enjoy my pipe in Boswell's lounge someday, and it would be nice to meet some of the forum members here. It's roughly a three hour's drive from where I am at.

    This is a Bit Extreme.

This is yet another prime example of how utterly clueless older adults are when it comes to messaging to the younger generations. In this irony-poisoned youth culture, the "poison in every puff" ciggy will be a goddamned collector's item. :ROFLMAO:

Older Guys: What are Your Thoughts?

"Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants." - Epictetus I won't add much beyond what others have already eloquently stated, especially since you said they already tilted your opinion over to what your father also advised you to do. But I will say this: ask...

Who Taught You to Smoke a Pipe?

There are no B&Ms in my neck of the woods, and I knew of no one who smoked a pipe at the time. But it was something I wanted to pursuit in earnest, and like many people my age, I began by combing through online videos. Muttonchop and Stuff 'n Things were the most helpful, but by and large, I...

    Novelist Martin Amis Has Died

Despite having a copy of "Money" on my shelf, I have yet to acquaint myself with Amis' fiction. However, I am acquainted with his essays. "The War Against Cliché" is a favorite of mine. He had an acerbic wit that I really appreciated. Sorry to see him go.

The Demise of the Polite Society: Et Tu WSJ?

One of the more, ahem, "entertaining" things to witness is people complaining about young people being too easily offended, even when it doesn't make sense to lodge that complaint. Honestly: do you think anyone, let alone the kind of young people who care about genderfluid language, actually...

This Tobacco is Crap! No it Isn't! New G.L. Pease Article

I hear you, but none of what you said actually addresses my criticisms. But for what it is worth, yes, I do agree that many people make hasty value judgments based on purely subjective tastes. But where Pease errs--aside from what I said prior--is, as you say, taste (or TASTE as you put it)...

This Tobacco is Crap! No it Isn't! New G.L. Pease Article

I can sympathize with Mr. Pease to the extent that he is a skilled tobacconist and blender, and seeing his or his contemporaries' hard work so easily and carelessly dismissed can be frustrating. I try to take a Stoic outlook to criticism, but I also don't have my livelihood tied to selling a...

Carl Jung and The Importance of Pipe Smoking

Well, this is a guy impersonating him, so not in this instance. But it is an eerily accurate impersonation, and incredibly funny.

Carl Jung and The Importance of Pipe Smoking

Peterson, however, does make for some great meme gruel:

Do you Post Reviews on Tobaccoreviews.com ?

I used to, and may again if boredom strikes me fierce. But I just don't see much point. I find my earlier reviews slightly embarrassing because either my tastes have changed or the tobaccos themselves changed, and they were written well before I had enough experience smoking to be able to...

    Building Collection Staples

If you like aromatics, I'd recommend definitely trying some of Boswell's confections. Man makes a good aro. Bear blend is a particular favorite of mine. It has a caramel taste that is surprisingly good. For a good vanilla, G.L. Pease's Virginia Cream is wonderful.

    What am I missing?

I always recommend people try a sampler first, and from that sampler, build a familiarity with whichever family of tobaccos their preferred sample stems from. For new smokers, building good smoking habits is important, and briefly sticking to a single genre gives you time to practice with...

    Modern Burleys vs. Codger Burleys

I'd say the biggest difference between the two is that codger blends are typically made with easy consumption and pleasant room notes in mind. As such, they tend to have a light body, easy nicotine level, and are cased or topped generously. Many modern burley blends can also be that, but...

    Marital advice on snus usage

Okay, so at first, when I saw the title of this thread, my brain read it as "snu," which made me think you were saying you were addicted to snu snu. In which case, I'd say, die with a smile: Obviously, I misread that. :ROFLMAO: On a more serious note, what exactly do you mean by addiction...

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

Got my 9B on Sunday, and been smoking it ever since. I love the way deluxe systems smoke, and this one is mighty fine. One of my favorite Peterson shapes is the XL90, and this one feels like a slightly more refined and svelte version of that, so I'm pretty happy with it.

A Question About Different Types of Tobaccos

My mom told me my great uncle Dory used to smoke pipe, but for the life of her she could not remember what it was. The memory of the smell, however, did stay, and with some time I was able to tease it out. Dory smoked Half 'n Half, but back in his time, that tobacco used to have deertongue in...

    Predicament Ordering Tobacco

I honestly really like your approach, @WVOldFart. It allows you to really cultivate a small stable of superior tobaccos suited to your tastes, but the samplers still gives you the opportunity to branch out and experience something new or better. It's a nice compromise between mindless...

    Soon-to-be- Forgotten 80s Comedy Flicks

One of the interesting things about the 21st century is that the constant commodification of literally everything and the continued popularity of digital streaming technology makes it so a great deal of popular media never actually sunsets totally into obscurity, provided it was tremendously...

    What are You Reading Now?

Currently reading "Newjack: Guarding Sing Sing" by journalist Ted Conover. As a person who has worked in the corrections field for over nine years, I must say I find Conover's approach so far to be refreshing; he tells things from an officer's perspective and does so without sentimentality or...
