We all build on the foundations of those who came before us and thats fine. But look at the totality of someone's work before judging an individual theory. In Petersons case I see a man on a personal journey to find meaning in his own life. I discussed Jung before and he admitted he was possessed which is not the route I choose. Plato only had two successful students who became tyrants and killed their own people so he recanted his theories at the end of his life. If you didn't know that you might easily become a Platonist and say this is great ... without knowing the ultimate end result. I prefer theology to philosophy.
Here I wrote my own version of "maps of meaning" and you can write on too just click on the link below.

But seriously regardless of recants and what he/they do Plato wrote some great stuff is all I'm saying and Peterson devotees are following a cult of personality much more than any thinker of great merit. Had it not been for his pro noun snowball that started to roll and the U.N. controlled op money and push behind his overly explained common sense ideas no one would know who he is. Was anyone quoting his delusional rants or sighting him at all in any serious psych papers pre-2016? Like any modern artist, there are those who stick out and their contributions live throughout the ages regardless of their morality or how they lived or died the work is either good and remembered or bad and not.

I too prefer theology but this world is ruled by "the prince of the powers of the air " after all, and itching ears are abound listening to any midwit drivel as if it's golden wisdom these days.

All human systems/organizations, no matter how well they begin, become corrupt to one degree or another due to fallen human nature...and typically the greater the power and wealth, the greater the corruption.

The corruption in any modern organized religion is the same corruption Jesus railed against the Pharisees and temple money changers about. And however much corruption there is in any religious organization, there is just as much in the so-called scientific establishment...and its adherents are just as blind and in denial about it as people are to their religious organizations.
Yep. There is the investigative, pure science, which I'm all for and then there is scientism--hubristic and corrupted. Amateur atheists are members of this belief based sect.

Life in an entropic universe has only three requirements:

1 --- Consume other living organisms

2 --- Avoid being consumed yourself

and

3 --- Make more of your own kind

That intelligence evolved in one of the combinations of Earth's 100+ element stew after a billion years of fractal intermixing is not surprising.

It is not significant, either.

All the humans who ever lived---including those alive today---would fit inside a cube 6000 feet on a side. A storge container that would barely get a second glance if situated in a major city and flown over at cruising altitude in a commercial airliner.

In contrast, a spaceship travelling at ten million miles an hour would take 330 years to reach the "next star over" from our Sun. And longer than the Universe has existed to cross our own galaxy. Which is just one of 150 billion or so galaxies, which are spaced exponentially farther apart than the stars within them.

In other words, all there is is what we MAKE of Life on this rock. We're never leaving it, and no one is going to come visit.

That being the case, building cool shit is real, and doing cool shit is real. Real physical laws are in play. Bullshit doesn't fly.

On the other hand, the fashion-driven, personality-dominated field of psychology is little more than the modern version of spirit mediums, astrology, and psychic advisors. Nothing ever gets settled. Nothing can ever be settled. Because no physical laws govern it, bullshit does fly. It's scam artist heaven.

The end.

Synchronicity is the first thing I think of in relation to Jung...and I was just very recently reading this piece. Surely it was meant to be posted here.

This one sentence excerpt will give you an idea of what it's discussing:

I maintain that what we witness as matter and energy is a representation of a universal substance that is consciousness.

I saw a couple of Peterson's recorded classes from before it all went to his head. He seemed a passionate, caring professor.

But, but...Disclosure...the USS Nimitz!?!
I agree there is a lot of fashion driven pop psych passing for helpful today but I'd surely not throw Jung in that camp. No one who's read his work, knew of his life would either.

Ah, that.

It definitely is difficult to decide if that business is more likely to have an earthbound explanation that fits the laws of physics, or is a swarm of sentient creatures in vehicles from Eridanus V that had to either fold space somehow or spend a billion years travelling here by mechanical means. And then remain elusive and secretive after their arrival.

Hmmm... Sounds like a toss-up to me. And living in a Star Wars universe sounds SO much more fun!

Once upon a time, emotion-inducing unprovable nonsense was relegated to newsprint in racks next to cash registers at grocery stores.

Today, the Tabloid Mindset has taken over everywhere, at every age level, in every part of the developed world, courtesy of the Internet.

Why? Because it's possible to make $10K a day at a keyboard creating mental junkfood, and where's there's money to be made humans will follow.

I'd have to read more to verify if what you say has any validity. From what I read he was trying to replace christianity with his own religion. But, I would hope you are right and my interpretation wrong. I have found that most people who criticize Christianity have no clue what it actually is and says and their comments prove that. ie: the Peterson video you referenced above. By the way there is a later one called I am no longer an atheist. As I said before to each his own ... we are all on our pwn journey and at different points along the way with different abilities so you are right that it is unfair to compare. If I did that I apologize.
All good! No apology necessary. Jung wasn't trying to replace Christianity but there was some banter about its potential to do so, I don't recall by whom. I didn't reference the Peterson vid above, which is a parody, I hear, and a good one, as I thought it was him! I've no beef with the guy, he's making bank talking, some are listening and finding it helpful, most women seem to hate him, IDK, strange times-"the splitting of the world" prophesied by Joachim of Fiore??

If we can make it another thousand or so years, I think a lot of this stuff will become more clear. We're relative infants and have only scratched the surface of what's going on throughout this thing we call reality. Plenty to learn!

Yes, and the thing is, there are honest people in both camps, religion and science...but they tend to not want to acknowledge and do something about the corruption in their own arena.

So both remain largely under the control of extremely corrupt people...some of which manipulate both sides.

How is Peterson faring with the Dunhills? A parody or same blend/exact replicas??
The latter, fortunately, at least based upon the consensus here. I got into pipe smoking right about the time of the transition, so I never got to have a basis for comparison. My favorite blender is Drew Estate, so I'm used to the disappointment of blends gone by the wayside. Too many blends still in production to lament this too much, blessedly.
