As for me, I don't have a big cellar, but I do have a wide variety, and should probably not order any tobacco for several years or more. I don't order much at a time, but I order more than I smoke, and it accumulates.
I ordered last week for the year. I don’t smoke very much so I essentially have 2+ years on hand at my current pace. When we go to the cigar bar, I pick up a couple of ounces of something that feels right in that moment. So, I think you have the right approach

I really don't have any reason to what blends I order. Sometimes, it's @JimInks review. Sometimes, it's the tin art. But I'm definitely cutting down on orders since my smoking frequency has gone down dramatically. Maybe once a week now? And I started helping out at my family business since it's summer. All the employees are students, so they usually quit in summer.

My smoking frequency has gone up since the horse moved in with us (no, that's not code for anything), perhaps verging on one bowl per day. Even so, I find that my current cellar, residing somewhere in the neighborhood of ten pounds between sealed tins and jars, will probably last me the rest of my life, even if that frequency were to increase further. But TAD dies hard (I blessedly do not have PAD, which frees up TAD funds!), and I'm a sucker for a great sale, after all. So I keep my eyes peeled, and when I find one, I scoop up some additions to the cellar. But I always keep it within reason.

We live in an age when we have literally thousands of tobacco blends to choose from, many are quite similar. A while ago I decided to lessen my supply of tobaccos to just the top 10 usual blends with an occasional sampler to keep up with other chooses. I figured this would not be a major problem since I smoke basically the same tobaccos every week with a few new ones included. This morning I finished the last of Eileen's Dream. I enjoy Eileen's Dream, but do I want to reorder it or not? Do I stick to my guns and try to shorten my supply of tobaccos, I have enough for several life times, or do I reorder this very nice blend? We are truly blessed to have such a wide assortment to choose that it comes to limiting our chooses or building an extra room to the house. I think I will go a while and see if I miss Eileen's Dream. My guess is that I will be satisfied with eliminating other excess blends that I already have and enjoying my usual selection. How do my fellow forum members decide when they are ordering?
You should just do eet.

As many others have said, if its what you like, order more.
Two reasons:
1. The price is going to go up.
2. You never know when someone will decide to stop making that blend.

I don't have a big cellar either but I do have a wide variety simply because I'm always enjoy exploring new blends. The exception being The Untouchables (by HU/DTM/MA). I just received another order of 10 tins.

I honestly really like your approach, @WVOldFart. It allows you to really cultivate a small stable of superior tobaccos suited to your tastes, but the samplers still gives you the opportunity to branch out and experience something new or better. It's a nice compromise between mindless consumption and overbearing thrift.

I say wait a couple of weeks. If you find yourself really missing it after a long enough hiatus, then you got something special that really deserves a spot in your permanent rotation. If not, then you can move on to something else entirely. But give yourself time to actually miss it. I'm a youngin', but I have found when trying to find blends I want in permanent rotation, I will purposely leave them be for a few weeks. If I find myself really jonesin' for them, then I know I got something that I truly like.

It's how Haunted Bookshop and Windjammer ended up in my forever rotation. I enjoyed them outright, but when I finally finished my tins and didn't have any left after several weeks, it really made me realize just how much I enjoyed them. I smoke blends all the time that I like, but if I never smoked them again it would not bother me much. Find the ones whose absence impacts you, I say. True for people, true for tobacco.

What do you do when you have more unopened tobacco than you want to smoke, to cull the herd and keep only what you want?

1. Rent a table at a pipe show and sell what you can at discount prices to keep it moving.

2. Send it all to pipestud and see what he can do for you. Better check with him first to see if it is tobacco he can sell.

3. Arrange a commission deal at a local pipe shop, if you have one.

4. Sell them individually or by lots on Forums, if you have enough posts to qualify to sell on Forums.

5. Rent a table at a flea market and see how you do.

6. Give tobacco gifts to pipe smoking friends.

7. Personally, I'd prefer not to trash any unopened tobacco. I'd give it away first. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

In my will I have my login information for this site, with instructions to sell off my cellar in the Tobacco Sale/Swap/Trade section after consulting Al, and whatever doesn't sell, I bequeath to Chasingembers... and you can find him by checking the folder on my acct for everyone I follow on this forum. :::cough cough::: JK. puffy

I really want it all cremated with me, Viking funeral style. Taking it to Valhalla with me. Skål!!!

I’m quite found of Eileen’s dream, a dream aromatic…. My one problem is it’s a little low nic, gotta get that kick. However, I should look into it, I see it’s still available, I was under the impression it had been discontinued.

Honestly...
How much will you miss it if you can no longer get it?
If you like it and can afford it then I say buy at least few tins and be happy.
When we go, nothing can go with us, it becomes someone else's, good and bad.
Enjoy what you can while you can.

I wish I was in that situation, you all know what we're going through down here.
I only have about 8 X 50g tins worth of tobacco in total right now, because I was stupid, plus laws changing here stuffed me, also some bad timing.

I'm ordering hopefully more than I smoke at the moment to build up a little over time, it's very costly to order too much for me.

We keep saying it, because it's true.
It'll never be cheaper or easier to get than right now.
