I never give much weight to "reviews".
When it comes to tobaccos just tell me the components.
I couldn't tell you notes of whatever but what I can tell you is like most of us "old timers" I like what i like.
Fortunately though after reading what many fellow pipers had to say about Lane 1-Q I decided to take a chance.
:sher:
:sher: Well, I broke my cardinal rule for my pipe collection again:
Rule1: Never smoke an aromatic tobacco in a briar or morta pipe (meerschaum or cob only).
How could I have been blinded by my aversion to aromatics to have missed this ??
:sher: I smoked this in a Rad Davis commission(2013).

Lane 1-Q is now number 3 in my my desert island list.

I don't and never will simply because I'm not sure I could articulate much anyone else would be remotely interested in. I enjoy looking up a blend from time to time and reading reviews and appreciate the time folks put into it, especially @JimInks, even @pipestud has quit a few in there from years ago. There's some info just beyond the subjective to be gleaned about changes in blends over time, composition in general, etc. Seems like a good resource, IMO, but you've got to figure out how and whether a lot of it is relevant to you.

I posted maybe a dozen reviews over a two month span, but lost the spark.

In more recent years I've found the search function to be nearly useless half the time. You're better off googling the blend name along with "tobaccoreviews".

Damned Euros.
Canada is going that way, too.
How in hell do the Canucks put up with having their packages searched on a routine basis?
I keep trying to find people to burn Ottawa to the ground with but nobody wants to.....
This post will likely get me arrested by Sunday lol

I've never looked at the site. Opinions on blends are a very personal thing and if I've learned one thing, it's everyone has their own taste and seldom does it match many others. I suppose if a hundred guys all said a blend was terrible and no one said they liked it... well, I might decide to stay away. And if a hundred said they loved it and no one disliked it, then I might give it a try. There are exceptions to every rule. puffy

I have put some reviews on there over the years. I use it more for a personal reference than anything else

After reading Jim's reviews, I pretty much take the rest for entertainment value. People get so uptight about these things.

I find it interesting how opinions differ on this fact. But that is a whole different thread...
I've got meerschaums and had cobs that are ghosted so badly that the outside of the pipe is saturated with the smell of the tobacco smoke in them. No chance of removing it due to the material being a super absorbent sponge. The density of briar and morta only allows for contact surface ghosting. Wet coffee grounds or a blast of ozone can undo it.

I posted 40-50 reviews, I found it quite useful for the same reasons you did. I have too much OCD and do not visit the site anymore, it's a bit of a mess as far as organization, but most don't even notice. I hope you continue to find it useful.

I find the reviews to be mostly helpful. I try to follow certain reviewers that I get to know, such as @JimInks who consistent reviews with reliable information. While my palate and experience may differ, I still get good information from the reviews. I do not have a good palate or enough experience to contribute meaningfully, but hope that one day I will be able to do so. Other reviewers that I don't know well enough I skim through and try to get an aggregate 'man off the street' opinion.

I also try to read 'super tasters' reviews and learn from them. This is not only helpful for my tobacco growth, I find it fun.

This +1. I find the site extremely useful for me in learning about the different components, production info etc. and I use it all the time. I don’t contribute much but I am very glad it’s there.

I used to, and may again if boredom strikes me fierce. But I just don't see much point. I find my earlier reviews slightly embarrassing because either my tastes have changed or the tobaccos themselves changed, and they were written well before I had enough experience smoking to be able to write a competent review. And most reviewers are just that: bored newbies being stans for whatever their favorite blend is at the moment. Likewise, most people just cannot write worth a damn. Finally, unless you're writing a review for a blend that is just recently released, your review isn't likely to be read by very many people anyway. Why bother?

Still, I will make a cursory glance at the site if I'm thinking of buying a new blend I'm unsure of. I've a handful of reviewers on there whose tastes are similar to my own, so that can be useful sometimes.
