How to Exorcise an Entrenched Ghost

Completed and mailed a month ago but it's still at a USPS facility in Chicago!

Absolutely stunning pieces. Are the two nearest to the viewer 2Ks?

***What Are You Smoking, April 2020?***

Some 2015 McC No. 2015 on a beautiful Singapore day in my favourite pipe: a Castello KK NV Canadian. It's begun colouring very nicely since I got it from Tabaccheria Corti in January.

***What Are You Smoking, April 2020?***

No, The Grass Crown by Colleen McCullough, but now you've given me something new to put on my list! Mithridates is one of the more fascinating characters of the 1st Century BC, only beaten by Sulla and Marius!

***What Are You Smoking, April 2020?***

Though I'm awaiting the end of my 14-day mandatory isolation, I was allowed out of my quarantine quarters for a smoke on the balcony today while the family was out. 2015 McClelland No. 2015 in my Moretti chimney. I'd love this pipe if the airway was a bit bigger. It can get very gurgly.

GLP Union Square at 10 Years

Thanks for this review. I have 2 lbs in 8oz tubs from last year sitting in my cellar right now to prepare for the eventual FDA deeming date and I'm delighted that the harshness of that young C&D VA disappears with age. I have a 2009 tin as well and I may need to give that a try after hearing this!

    Carolina Red Flake w/2002 Perique

Can you tell us what they said verbatim?

    Carolina Red Flake w/2002 Perique

It almost surely isn't the 2015 batch. I remember Jeremy Reeves saying that the September/October release was the last from that crop and it appears that they've found a 2018 harvest that meets their standards. Interestingly, and I don't think anyone has picked up on this, the blend will consist...

    Carolina Red Flake w/2002 Perique

Opening Night is great, but it can be awfully harsh when young! Doesn't keep me from cellaring about a pound of it in those big 8oz tubs. I've heard really, really good things about Simply Red and I'm aiming to buy a pound or two when it comes back in stock. That and Sutliff's 515RC-1.

***What Are You Smoking? March 2020***

Haven't been able to smoke for a little bit over a week now as I'm in mandatory isolation after fleeing London for Singapore, but I've been fantasising about my next bowl to the point that I've got it ready to go five days in advance: 2017 McClelland Aurora in my Moretti chimney and lit with my...

    Carolina Red Flake w/2002 Perique

That's a real issue with C&D Virginias: they're far too young when blended. The leaf processing that McClelland was renowned for died with that company, and I'm afraid we won't know VA like theirs again. However, I hear a couple of years on a tin of Union Square (manufactured by C&D) does...

    Carolina Red Flake w/2002 Perique

To be honest, if I had a wall of Christmas Cheer I wouldn't buy Carolina Red Flake either!

    Carolina Red Flake w/2002 Perique

I can't believe there hasn't been a thread on this yet. C&D announced yesterday via their Instagram that a new batch of Carolina Red Flake would be released with 2002 perique (presumably of the batch used in the SmokingPipes XX release a month ago). Not sure about you guys, but I'm really...

The Forgotten Blends, Underrated, and Under Valued

Seconded. Brown Flake is absolutely excellent. I had to leave London in a hurry a couple of days ago and I SO regret that I wasn't able to send a factory bag overseas.

The Forgotten Blends, Underrated, and Under Valued

This is a really good question. Maybe not a 'deep sleeper' because GL Pease is well known, but I think Union Square is criminally under-mentioned. It's a great, relatively cheap, mixed bright and red VA flake that is excellent when fresh and divine when aged.

I saw that one as well over the past two weeks. She's a real looker with that tapered stem!

Smokingpipes Savinelli 20th Anniversary 320 KS

That is some absolutely stunning grain. It has got my favourite type of birds-eye where each pattern swirls into the next.

New (to me) Scotti-era Castello Collection KKK Bent Billiard

SmokingPipes insisted this was a factory re-drill, but I wasn't so sure. It really is a crying shame. I loved the pipe and I am on the lookout for another one like it, though it's a rare pipe for Castello.
