Your cherry trials are fascinating to me . . . . I've been off and on with them but like a bowl two or three times a week. I share your fondness for the Smokers' Pride Cherry - it's a peach lol. You might want to ad CAO Cherry Bomb to your list. It's right up there on mine with Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish, and surprisingly, the over-the-top and somewhat barbaric Captain Black Cherry. The Smoker's Pride Classic is also excellent, especially as a mixer. Keep on truckin'!! 👍 👍

I may have to give the CAO Cherry Bomb a go! It was one of the ones I had considered trying, but my only previous experience with CAO was Eileen's Dream which I found to be almost flavorless; so I wasn't in any hurry to buy another tin from them.

I have been enjoying Borkum Riff's Cherry Cavendish too, though man is it ever temperature sensitive! If the wind picks up just a little too much outdoors it can really turn burnt tasting, but for indoor smoking it's great. I'm also not ashamed to admit that I like Captain Black Cherry as well! As far as I can tell it's absolutely identical to Lane Very Cherry, and always reminds me of eating a cherry danish with it's sweet cherry confection + almond flavor profile. puffy

My good wife just messaged me about a middle aged State Senator with a wife and children who just got busted trying to pick up a teen aged girl in an Orange Jump Suit district. Turns out the little girl in the jump suit was one of them there policemen, instead.

Part of me feels sorry for an old man who thought young girls in orange jump suits really wanted him, but most of me wonders what I’d do to one who pursued our daughter, you know?

I’ve cleaned up her kitchen while she went through all the legal papers on her dining room table and now while a big sink full of dishes soaks I’m out here in our garage smoking Smoker’s Pride Cherry Cavendish in my $35 Made in Denmark Iwan Ries Danish Large Dublin #320 with polished panels and sandblasted relief.

That man was headed to the Senate when he stopped off for a little action.

This new $35 Iwan Ries had a mystery maker but it resembles my first really good Danish estate pipe I paid $35 for in Springfield Missouri about 35 years ago to a pipe seller who looked exactly like Charlie Rich, a Bari Wiking. Of course then $35 bought a lot bigger Danish pipe.

The Charlie Rich pipe seller had a wife, and in spite of all the fancy matrons of the next door beauty shop he always locked up and went home with his son to her.

Life’s full of choices, and I’ve never regretted most of mine, so far.

Patience being my middle name  I didn't wait to re-try the McQueen Miniature Barrel Rider, and it's dedicated tobacco Mad Fiddler, to satisfy my curiosity with respect to the very mediocre smoke with this combo I had last night. Re-did the smoke this afternoon.

All is well, but I now get why I preferred this combo in the late morning, about two hours after the breakfast I usually don't eat. It's a fairly hardnose tobacco, I'd call it bracing. Got the usual Perique to Kasturi to Virginias ABA form which is so noticeable in the progression of the smoke.

So, it's back to the usual treasured place in my rotation. Seems the more things change, the more they stay the same. Like this flashback from the past by the Kingston trio, from the late 50's or early 60's. Always liked these guys, especially the little guy. I'm about his size lol. Enjoy.

Love that J16, sweet pipe, and about the perfect pipe to me. If I could choose only 7 pipes, the minimum I think for a decent rotation, both my J16 and J07 would be in that august company. Going for the J07 tonight with either Steamworks or Sunday Picnic (Oriental Dedicated).
I totally agree. Great smoking little pipes. I enjoy my J04 as well. Been eying a Ropp Mid Century 309M to buy. Can’t beat the value and utility of Ropp pipes.

Having Daughters & Ryan Three Sails British style Virginia in the smaller of the two Japanese nobe-kiseru pipes from my 2025 Birthday Haul—this is the plain, undecorated one (the other is decorated with a dragon motif). A nobe-kiseru pipe is a single piece of metal, and much less common than rau kiseru (made with three pieces—two metal ends, usually connected by bamboo). This cast iron pipe could be from the earlier or middle part of the Edo period (1603–1868), but there’s no way of really knowing; it is much bulkier and cruder than most kiseru pipes, which often look elegant (this makes me think it’s from an earlier part of the period). This one measures about 7.5" in length (the dragon motif one, about 8.0"); it’s not as long as most kenka-kiseru (fighting pipes) which would normally fall in the 12.0"–18.0" range, but it is entirely possible that it was used for eye gouging and could have been a fighting pipe.

We made some progress on the attic and got about 90% of the boards back in place and screwed down. Some needed blocks of wood to be sistered to the wood underneath in order to have something to screw the boards into; the electrician that started the job a few years ago cut the boards, but not always in spots where they could easily be remounted with support. The Honeycomb Hideout is one step closer to being ready.

For Saint Patrick’s Day, Susan made corned beef and cabbage with potatoes. It was yummy.

This morning, Susan got some sad news. A dear friend of hers in Florida succumbed to ALS last night. While not unexpected, it was sooner than we thought.
My old boss succumbed to ALS. Hit him hard and quick and it was awful seeing him whither away knowing his brain and mind were still intact. He was ten years out from retirement too. There’s a lot of awful diseases out there but ALS is just pure evil. Sorry for your loss :(

This retired life has more arduous labor than I was used to lawyering.

I was up to haul the trash all the way to the street before dawn and open up the chicken coop, then rose again at crack of noon to gather three eggs and fix another pot of Yuban smoking Prince Albert Cherry Cavendish in my gleaming Made in England C.B. Perkins Supreme #296 Canadian that cost me a whole $18.75 plus postage and taxes the gosh darned gubbermint levies that took the total up to $26 delivered.

My lovely wife fixed me dinner but it was poppy seed and broccoli laden so I nuked a couple of hot dogs with Kraft cheese and French’s mustard.

And she ordered me to feed the chickens some lentil she sprouted for a treat.

Any time I get sorta rebellious anout being a chore slave I recall a Merele Haggard song my dear angel mother made me memorize.

Chores 1994

After I feed them there chickens we are going to clean up her kitchen and dining room, you know?

Our youngest boy turned 31 yesterday, and we are having him a birthday party.

I gotta share for all you chicken farmers out there: "A Natural History of the Chicken" is a fabulous movie.

Great choice on the Merle Haggard. What a voice he had! This is my favorite Merle song. I love how country music can be so glum and yet the underlying music is all major chords hahaha. The lyrics are so direct too. I'm also a big fan of Townes Van Zandt and Kris Kristofferson.
