Nice clay, I've got one like that I got from @tozert. I have difficulty lighting mine, I'd probably need a blowtorch to light it!
Would like to fill it and see how long it takes to smoke!
I sometimes feel like I smoke my clays a bit too hot or too fast but this is due to fear of the pipe going out and I'd like to see how long it will burn without relighting.
Should I do my slow smoke with one of my Markus Fohr clays or the large one?
One of my party pieces is to smoke a cigarette in one drag, I got a pat on the back for it once!

Pack them with very dry tobacco. I get about 50 minutes out of that one.

Every man worth having the balls he drags around needs a certain dose of “don’t give a shit.” Not too little, and not too much, but just enough. ?

I'm 36 too with a little social anxiety. I find the pipe smoking in public to help. Because it's something very rare to see over here these days, it's something 'to test' myself with.
I get a few fake coughing attacks from passer bys but anyone who has said anything to me have said positive things. Usually about memories.

On a side note, I own a couple of hats for similar. A jack&Jones cowboy hat and a dorfman Pacific outback hat. But I cant bring myself to wear them in public yet ?

I have a Cavalier hat and a Redcoat uniform for maximum effect and yes, I do wear them in public but only out of town!

I live where LA county ends, my friend. What the unfortunate commuters to SF call "the grapevine." But yes, you're right, there are no mountains in LA, save for the gigantic pile of bovine feces at Spring St. & Temple (City Hall).
Ha ha! No, I meant L.A. (Los Angeles) vs LA (Louisiana), where I’m from. No mountains here. Well, there is Driskill Mountain, but it’s really just a big hill. I wouldn’t have the foggiest clue what Los Angles (city or county) looks like, but I’ll take your word for it on City Hall! ?

It's always nice if you can "not worry about what anyone thinks" but we all know that everyone does worry about what others think of them. That's why we wear pants in public, right? ?
I started smoking pipes when I was in my early 30s when I looked like I was in my early 20s and I did feel weird smoking in public. Now that I am older, I encourage and join anyone I see smoking a pipe in public. We need to make pipe smoking more of a norm. These days it seems that smoking tobacco of any kind is akin to devil worshiping but if you feel fine and can go to that "don't worry about what anyone thinks" place in your head, enjoy your pipes and tobacco.

Interesting people under 35 would make an issue, even humorously, about a pipe smoker, or any other unique (but legal) behavior by a peer. We're given to believe that younger generations have done major resets on many old prejudices and are startlingly open minded on a vast array of subjects. This original post doesn't sound like that at all. It sounds like the kids I grew up with, who would take any individual trait, often even a good one, as a leverage to pick on another kid. Which takes me back to the obvious. People are people and don't visibly improve over any given century or two. Same old, same old. I was a really skinny kid in the years before rock stars made that a breathtaking attribute, and I paid the price. But it was character building.

I think any age is a great time to take up pipe smoking, as long as you enjoy it - and especially if you love it. ;) I smoked my first pipe in my mid- to late teens, got serious about it around 16, and then went public as a pipe guy during my freshman year at college (I was 18). At first, I felt self-conscious, but the pleasure of smoking a pipe outweighed my inhibition. I guess I remember occasional curious looks, but comments about being "too young"? I can't recall too many. The most common reactions I ever got in my teens, 20s, and 30s were along the lines of: "Your pipe sure smells nice!" "Hey, nice pipe!" "Whatcha smokin' in that pipe, man?" A college friend of mine would sometimes say the pipe just went along with my studious personality.

Don’t mean to go off topic, but Ireland, pipe smoking rare, ahhh, what’s the world coming to! I always considered Peterson a household name in the world of pipes, with lots of Irish puffing away...

Bought my first pipe the day I turned 18, 3 years later I still get funny looks and comments. I guess at my age smoking a pipe is either seen as odd or another way "us kids are smokin' the devils lettuce." Either way, I'm generally to busy enjoying the smoke to mind.

Wait a minute, youngster! I can agree about city hall, but the Santa Monica mountains in L.A. form the largest urban mountain chain in the US. Spent many mornings and afternoons hiking through them!

Hi everyone

So I am 36 and smoke a pipe. People find it hilarious and make fun of me but I love it.

Anyone else on here in their 30s that smoke pipes? If so what kind of reception do you get from people when they see you smoke from a pipe out and about?
You my friend are an individual who has learnt one of the most valuable lessons of life; it matters nought what others think [as long as ones not causing harm of course]
To thine own self be true.
Everyone else can fuck off as they please.

When I switched to a pipe it was to get off cigs.
Since I've been described as ''you know, the bloke who looks like biker Jesus" and known for my work in the spirit world, I'm already considered 'unique' so a pipe fits that image nicely.

Quiet a few look with curiosity and occasionally someone will compliment the aroma.
Some people smile as if to say 'cool, a pipe'.

I've yet to meet another pipe smoker in public but I know they're out there.

Welcome to the brotherhood of the briar.

Good for you mate. Wish I had the good sense to pick up a pipe at your age.

At 15yo I smoked a Falcon but carrying all the paraphernalia was a pain and I needed educating on the basics but had no mentor. So I picked up the filthy ciggies.
