Greetings! I'm from Slidell, LA and consider myself to be a member of the New Orleans Pipe Club after attending my second club meeting last night. A couple of the guys there mentioned this forum so I joined. Started smoking pipes in 1972 but pretty much gave it up in 1986 when we learned our youngest daughter had allergies and asthma. Started smoking cigars again when she moved off to college and switched back to pipes about 4 years ago. I mainly smoke English style blends and light aromatics. I have briars, meerschaums and two requisite cobs.

Hello everyone!

I'm madisdad (Madi's dad). Just joined last night and still new to pipe smoking. I'm from Virginia. I own 3 pipes........well let's say 2.5 since ones a mini and used for tasting lol. Still have no idea what my favorite blends are. I'm hoping this site will be as friendly and helpful as most cigar/tobacco shops I've been in lately.

Quit cigs in '97. Have within the past 3 years discovered I can smoke a cigar now and then without being tempted to go back. I had fond memories of smoking a pipe (I think a drug store Dr. Grabow) while playing chess and doing other geeky things so I had been hedging as to whether or not I should dip my toe back into it.
The churchwarden styles appealed to me but I didn't feel right about buying one online. I needed to see one and hold it in my hand to see how it felt. Consequently, there was a lot of vacillating and, of course, I never got around to getting one. Fast forward to about a week or so ago.
My wife and I were at an antique mart when I came across a very cool-looking, stubby pipe. I am new to everything but preliminary poking around makes me think I've got some sort of Rhodesian. So I went from getting something I could probably fish with to a snub nose. :lol:
I'm looking forward to smoking it but I don't like how the stem looks and am trying to find a replacement though, I don't know if I should just get at it with an exacto and give it a bleach bath as some YouTubers have done.
I'm looking forward to learning about pipes, the pipe smoking culture, and to enjoying (what I assume to be) my little Rhodie.
Can someone direct me to a different area where asking about identifying this little beaut may be more appropriate?

I've posted a time or two, then just saw this thread.
I've been smoking pipes as well as making them for about 15 years. I also enjoy smoking cigars. I have a wonderful wife and five kids: four girls and a boy. I am a member of the Oklahoma City Pipe Club, and generally go to several shows a year, namely Chicago, KC, Nashville, and hopefully Vegas this year. I hope to meet some of you there.

After some time reading the forum, finally I decided to register and I will try to participate more and more
I'm from Spain, actually I live in Saint Petersburg (Russia). I never smoked cigarettes, sometimes cigars and I tried few years back pipe smoking and stop after 10 bowls... Maybe the problem was that I started with aromatic tabacco and the tongue bite was not for me. I gave all my pipes (4), tabacco and more to my brother-in-law.
Now that the summer is coming, I decided to give another try. So here is what I've bought to get ready.
First I saw some videos and read some reviews about lighters and decided to buy this one... I guess many of you know about this old boy

Also I've bought this tabacco

In the shop where I've bought it they only have 100 grams tins of Frog Morton, so I bought it. Price in Russia is not good for these tabacco's... I paid double comparing with USA price, but it's ok.
What about the pipe? Yes, also I've got a pipe. I've bought a custom made by Scott Hudson, pipe will arrive soon. Waiting for the currier maybe during this week,

Now I'm talking with another maker to make my second pipe. Yes, I know... I didn't start smoking and I'm already buying many things, hehehe. But the second pipe will be different, apple shape, but the finish and colors something completely different.
Well, I have many questions and I know that I can find all the answers in the forum, so I will start searching. My main question now is, I will smoke Frog Morton Cellar in both pipes and see where I like it more, then I will leave the pipe for this tabacco... Is that correct? But should I leave the pipe just for one tabacco or I can smoke others? As I said, I will start searching in the forum to find the answers

due to no knowledge of where to purchase good tobacco. I bought my second and 3rd pipes recently and purchased

a bit of Mclelland to get restarted. What a difference! I currently have a billiard and a churchwarden. I'll be ordering

a Savinelli 320 in the near future. I found this site while googling for info and it was love at first site!

I've been reading and posting a little, so figure I should get around to introducing myself. I've been smoking pipes fairly regularly for a couple of years I guess. I was a cigarette smoker for years, eventually switched to cigars and came to loathe cigarettes, and after smoking pipes for a while I've recently learned that I don't really like cigars anymore. Maybe I'll move on to chewing tobacco eventually, who knows. I find that I like really sweet aromatics. Which tends to work out well because my wife doesn't mind the smell and I get to smoke indoors. If I develop a taste for latakia I might have to get a divorce, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Love all the great comments and camaraderie on this board!

Like countless others in this thread, I recently decided to pursue a long-time passion and take up the pipe. I have no friends or family who smoke pipes, though some go through cigarettes like candy. There are also no reputable tobacconists in my home locale of West Texas... so, I turned to the internet whenever I had questions and doubts; and, also like countless others in this thread, I have found this site to have more of the information that I've been looking for than most other sites. Now, I'm not normally a very sociable person... I've turned into a bit of a curmudgeonly homebody. I'm a 46-year old single dad who homeschools a 10-year old son with Asperger's. This leaves little time, or energy, for going out and kickin' it with the buds. Perusing the forums, I've seen your faces and heard your opinions on things great and small more in the last few months than just about anybody that I would call 'friend' here, locally. Plus, there have been a few threads lately about which I've had an opinion and felt I might be able to contribute a little... so I figured it was time to step out of the shadows and introduce myself.

I have been pipe smoking almost 30 years, thanks to the pipe I got off the Coffin nails. I have owned a wide array of Pipes over the years from Kaywoodies to Dunhills. I have also had different collecting interests as well during this time. I also have smoked a lot of different types of Tobacco, from Burley to English blends. About 6yrs ago I became acquainted with two of Britain's most famous OTC Blends and have never looked back. After smoking quite a bit of St.Bruno and Condor I have come to realize that I have found for me...the perfect blend. After reading about an Author on the internet and his love of Condor, I felt intrigued to try it. Wouldn't you know it I fell in love with a Tobacco that is only available overseas. Would also like to apologize, I may have went against the guidelines by sending a member a PM with myself having such a low post count.

I'm not what you'd refer to as a seasoned Pipe smoker. I tried smoking a pipe a couple of times (and made a mess of everything) years ago. I started off as a cigarette smoker when I was 14 (yeah, yeah, I know). Occasionally when I was a teenager I would buy a couple of gas station cigars and enjoy them. This remained the same until I couldn't find my cheap cigars anymore and started smoking real cigars in 2008. Around early 2012 I started smoking pipe. The primary reason was cost savings over smoking cigars. I loved the flavor of cigars, so I started looking for pipe blends that would reflect that flavor profile. After that, I discovered latakia and fell further into the world of pipes until it dominated my tobacco habit.
