I did not realize it could mean that! Would it also have some other 'code' stamped into it if it was repaired or replaced?
Dunhill would stamp a pipe for a warranty repair and I was given to understand that was, or included, a date stamp. Wouldn’t surprise me if some other stamp was included. They had a few arcane stamps, like the rectangle stamp, that was supposed to represent the pipe being a little above grade.
I had no competition for this nice little Orlik. It's near impossible to see from the photos but the "Orlik" is written in script.

Most often, but not always, Dunhill would add a additional stamp, an ‘EX’ to signify it was an “Exchange” pipe on a factory warranty replacement pipe.
Something to note is that there are some (many) exceptions to every Dunhill rule. I have several Dunhill's that look typical in every way except they have this additional ‘EX’ stamp to signify it was an exchange piece.

I own a ( bone vent. shaped case ) set of two 1952 patent h graded DR's .
The best and oddest grain I've seen on any pipe so far.
Bought them for a song from a Belgian seller who knew nothing about pipes.
Would like to learn from the Dunhill experts about the cases.
