Going to the Chicago Pipe Show? Do Us All A Favour

Take lots of pictures, enjoy yourselves, and have fun. So many of us can't get to a real pipe show this year, and need to live vicariously through your experiences. ?

    Couple of Pipes Come Home

Probably a few years ago, I 'restored' and cleaned up my first project pipe. It was nothing special, a 1950s Grabow Golden Duke. I learned a lot about cleaning rims and cleaning stems. I also cleaned up a nice ripple grain pipe stamped "The Tinder Box". Again, this was a learning opportunity...

The Official 2022 Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

As an Oilers fan, I love the Kings matchup - I think it will make for a good series. That Leafs/Lightning one could be a good one too ?

Is There A Lighter That Doesn't Leak?

Don't say a Bic. Is there any nicer lighters out there that don't leak? My Zippo is perpetually empty and I've tried all the tricks. I bought an old stock IMCO and even that leaks, although not as much. Has anyone made a liquid fueled / gas fueled lighter that never leaks?

April 28th 1973 - On This Day in Music

April 28th 1973 was when Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon went to #1 on the Billboard chart, starting a remarkable 741 week chart run. I have a hard time imagining current music having that kind of staying power.

Does Anyone Smoke a Tyrolean Pipe Regularly?

Every so often I get an itch to get a long Tyrolean hunters pipe. I start to browse around, watch a few auctions, but never is the trigger pulled. Has anyone here bought one and use it? I smoke so infrequently that I would almost never use it, but those that do, what are you impressions?

National Cherish an Antique Day; Show Us Yours!

Title edited to remove date. Note added that antique is 100 years old; otherwise it's 'vintage'. https://nationaltoday.com/national-cherish-an-antique-day/ I think antiques have a certain charm, especially in this age where almost everything is disposable. Do you have an antique that means...

    Counterfeiting and Fakery

I have been tricked. At least I'm pretty sure I have. I've been lured by an unbelievably low price and paid for two counterfeit watches. The signs were there when I look at the pictures closely, but I didn't see it originally. This is not how a well made watch should be labelled, off center...

"Get My Wife's Name Out Of Your Mouth!"

I have to admit, I don't watch the Oscars, and don't really watch many movies anymore, so this story kind of flew under the radar for me until they were talking about it at work. What's your take? Lets try to keep this on topic please ?

Will Pipe Smoking Ever be Mainstream Again?

Looking back at old pictures, movies, books, and cartoons, I'm often pleased to see a character with a pipe, or mention of pipe smoking. It seems like about 50 or 60 years ago, pipe smoking was just 'part of the furniture' as it were, nothing noteworthy or different. Now, if we see a pipe...

    Happy Pancake Tuesday!

Just wanted to share my foolproof recipe for pancakes. Lent starts tomorrow for us Catholics, so we prepare by eating pancakes today. Well its not exactly that, but here is the recipe: 2 cups flour 2 tbsp sugar 4 tsp. Baking powder 1 tsp. Baking soda 1 tsp. Salt * the above is mixed in a bowl...

    New Brigham Estate

Poor pictures, but great looking pipe. Bought it recently from a forum member. Shape is nice and manageable, and is a perfect match to an existing Canadian-made Brigham I have. It has a nice dark/light brown stain and a mild rustication. Looks to be very lightly smoked. It is marked 224, but...

Removing Cake from the Bottom of the Bowl

What is the most effective way to remove cake that has built up on the bottom of a bowl? My old Butners reamer did an alright job of the sides, but I can't quite get it to remove the bottom stuff. Small screwdriver? Small knife? Sharpen the edges of the reamer? Any help is appreciated ?

Best Way to Remove Broken Stem in Shank?

I was gifted an older Barling with part of the stem broken off inside the shank. What is the best way to go about removing it? I've tried putting a screw in there and pulling, but it's stuck in there quite well. Any help appreciated ?

How Do You Assign Value to Your Estates?

When the time comes to cull the herd and move on from some pipes, how do you know what to charge for them? I'm not speaking of pipes that you can cross reference against SP or somewhere, but just an older pipe, in decent shape, with a less common name? How do you gauge what the market will bear?
