    Finished up a homemade today

Well done. I've never attempted a pipe all my own. The satisfaction you derive from the experience is well deserved.

The secret to buying an estate pipe with spousal blessing

A nice pipe, a great deal and a happy wife. The trifecta! Some days really do approach perfection.

    Clenching?

I generally hold the pipe with my hand, clenching when I need to use my hands for some other purpose. It just sort of happens naturally without conscious thought. No side effects either way.

    Great old Pipe cartoon Youtuben

This is exactly the reason I never allow monkeys to smoke my pipe.

Will no smoking in cars be next?

I can't help but notice that any time some crackpot idea bothers me, it generally started on the Left Coast. I'm sure there must be some reasonable gentlemen in California, but I cannot imagine living there myself.

Tobacco Basics - Nicotine & Sugar Content - Curing Methods

Thanks for the thumbnail sketch of the hobby I have so long enjoyed. I'll copy it and e-mail to myself for future reference.

Great Gift for Pipe Smokers - History of the Calabash

Thanks for the recommendation, Kevin. Have a wonderful Holiday Season.

    Briar brother Beginner

Welcome to the brotherhood. The advice given by Lawrence reflects my thought well. Your questions are just too big for a single forum thread. Study the sources cited by him and the others, and enjoy the adventure (and fellowship) of becoming a pipe smoker.

    Tongue Bite v. Tongue Burn

Bite is generally a function of tobacco type. Burn is often caused by steam forming on a too moist pack.

Does ANYBODY actually like Borkum Riff?

BR Whiskey was my first tobacco back in the late 60s and early 70s. I really enjoyed it back then. Of course, I was generally stoned at the time and would have enjoyed almost anything.

    French Pipes.

I currently have about 20 pipes in my collection. Italy, Ireland, Denmark and the USA are all well represented. I have one French pipe...a Ropp cherrywood that I've owned since the 1970s.

I have a question for everybody. Please answer

I was recently faced with that very question. I told him I "occasionally" smoke a pipe. I, in fact, smoke about one bowl per day. The Doc asked if I smoked cigarettes. I told him that I didn't and he said, "no problem". Not sure what he documented in his activity note.

New christmas pipe from my inlaws!

Beautiful! I just picked up an Italian BREBIA that is similar in appearance. It smokes as good as it looks.

Crisp winter air and a warm pipe..perfect combo.

We do have a change of seasons down here although I must admit that your thread left me a bit envious of the snowy winter mornings up north. Enjoy the pipe and share that MB Vanilla smoke to the world.

Wish me luck (maybe some new additions)

Odds were definitely in your favor, my friend. Anyone who owned 11 pipes should have been a collector. Sometimes the odds don't work out. Think of the trip as an adventure

    MacBaren Symphony

I recently purchased a tin of MB white (Standard Blend) and, like many of you have suggested, with some drying time it became quite pleasant with a hint of chocolate in the aftertaste. Thanks for the positive feedback, gentlemen.

    First Time Smoking Without Relights

It happens occasionally. Congratulations on this new first. Just be certain the outside of the bowl can be held in a closed palm for about six-ten seconds without burning your hand. If it gets too hot you might be puffing too hard.

    Gone?

I must confess: this is the only pipe community I regularly visit. No other site even comes close.

    P.A.D

The acquisition of a new or quality estate pipe is one of the true pleasures of life. Each of my pipes has become a friend and companion and will remain so throughout my life. Few other purchases grow so near my heart.
