What do use to light you're pipe?

An interesting bit of history on the 'old boy' pipe lighter...Following the first world war, many military men returned from battle with missing fingers, hands and arms. The Dunhill Company in England came up with a design that could be operated and maintained with only the thumb and a single...

What do use to light you're pipe?

Sirbogglesworth: A company called Xikar makes an 'old boy' knock off in it's Pipeline series of lighters. For about half the price, this is a truly beautiful and high quality instrument (with a lifetime guarantee). Check it out online. Maybe you don't need to wait for your birthday after all...

What do use to light you're pipe?

I need to revive this thread. Back when it originally appeared, I responded with one word, BIC. Recently, an old friend who said he couldn't stand seeing me use a plastic Bic with my beautiful briars, gave me an 'im corona' pipe lighter. OMG. I hereby change my answer. This thing is a work of...

    Jobey Dansk 3

One of my first pipes was a Joby Dansk. It was a Christmas gift from my wife in 1972 and is still a great smoking pipe.

    Walt Disney World pipe

I've had an apple shaped WDW pipe since the early 70's and it's one of my favorite smokers due to it's slightly large diameter bowl. I had the stem replaced several months ago, but the logo is still visible on the briar. Oh, for those good old days.

Florida Outdoor Smoking Bans May Be on the Horizon

I already signed the Florida petition at the Cigar Rights website. It happened in NYC and the Florida east coast is little more than a suburb of New York. It CAN happen here guys. Pay attention and let your voice be heard.

    600th Post

I've had the pleasure of joining you in a few of those threads. Congratulations on completing your first 600 posts. Now get going on the second 600.

    Soon to be pipe smoker!

Welcome to the family, friend. My first pipe was a no-name briar purchased in Mallorca, Spain when I was just 19. I am now 60 and still treasure that wonderful pipe. You'll find that, as the years rapidly pass, your growing collection of pipes will form a chronicle of life events. You will also...

    Newbie Modest collection

Welcome aboard, my friend. You have a good start there. Think of each new acquisition as a life-long treasure and, as the collection slowly grows it will become a chronicle of the years. Enjoy.

Would you smoke out of this?

Gotta say, it looks like an 18th century medical device for blowing smoke up the patient's posterior. As such, I'd have a hard time putting the thing near my mouth.

    What Did You do Today?

In the office seeing patients from 8:30 until 4:30. I call it my half day. During a self-imposed 'lunch break' I enjoyed a favorite local blend in one of my Peterson pipes while munching on crackers and string cheese. Life is good.

    Evolution of Pipe Smokers?

It seems that, whatever simple pleasure I pursue, some level of snobbery finds it's way into the community. After 40 years with pipe tobacco I still enjoy blends with sweet-smelling black cavendish and burly as well as "more sophisticated" English blends. Truth be told, on any given day any of...

    Slow Puff Cafe

Thanks for the bio, pipeguy. I just turned 60 in November but retirement isn't even on my radar. I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. I love my work, but envy the freedom you describe (and the MGB). We share a love of the guitar (I have three) and play every Sunday at...

    Slow Puff Cafe

It's interesting that there are so many younger gentlemen throughout this thread. I'm a 60 year old marriage and family therapist in West Palm Beach, Florida. I've been married (to the same woman) for the past 40 years, have two children and a gaggle of grandchildren. The youthful energy evident...

    St. Augustine, FL Pipe Club

I'm a bit too far south for this new group, but wish you well in your new endeavor. We surely rise or fall together.

Break it down - tobacco speak

Look for non-flavored blends heavy on Black Cavendish tobacco. Most good ones will taste as good as they smell.

New York Snuffs Out Smoking (parks, time square Ban Passed)

Should we thank these fools for permitting us to smoke in our own houses? This is outrageous, but predictable, given the current stat of the culture. Yet one more reason to avoid that wretched city. My fear is that the trend is spreading.

Was this Pipes Magazine article true?

I've been smoking a pipe since 1985. I know I'm smarter now than I was then.

    My pipe after refinishing

I play guitar and always have cream of carnauba on hand to polish and preserve the tops, backs and sides of my instruments. I figured, if it's safe and effective for spruce and mahogany, it aught to help my briars as well. It did a beautiful job. The stuff is even more effective on my...
