Anyone realize how crazy and ridiculous we all are?

The rituals and years of experience that lie behind those rituals slow us down a bit and provide skilled focus in a world racing toward the countless "essentials" that make up a hoped for peace that never seems to arrive. In my precious pipes, I find a contentment the world will never know...

    Who do you smoke with?

I smoke my pipe alone, but regularly share my smoking thoughts right here with hundreds of brothers all over this remarkable world.

I don't know the answer to your question, but will definitely check it out for content. Thanks for the heads up.

    Used pipe buying tips (wanted)

I begin by looking for a reputable pipe maker (ie.Savinelli, Peterson, etc.). If you're relatively new to the hobby, consider bringing your iPhone along and check out the maker on Pipedia.com for a look at the history behind the pipe. Then I look at the weight and size of the pipe. Then comes my...

Pipe finish rubs off on new pipe

I've found the same thing. Fear not...The pipes will look wonderful for the rest of your life if properly cared for. Consider the old school use of an olive oil rub following every cleaning. Let your pipes continue to evolve and love 'em like they were family members.

Passing on Pipe Smoking Without Saying a Word

I'm 61 now and have begun to think about the future of my beloved pipe collection. I only hope it comes into the hands of a young gentleman who will care for it with the respect shown that of your Uncle Ben.

Does heavier briar denote... higher quality?

I have several good quality rusticated pipes. Despite the fact that you couln't see the grain with x-ray glasses, they are all very light and smoke dry and pure. A Ser Jacobo, in particular, meets all these standards and is jet black in color.

What is the ingredient in pipe tobacco and cigars... that causes the dizziness?

This could well be our first forum question that we all agree on. With time that occasional nicotine dizziness will become a nice little buzz. Patience and perseverance, my friend.

    Layering Tobacco in the Bowl

I've never thought of it, but may give it a try now that you've planted the idea. Thanks.

    Question about pipe resting.

I've often smoked the same pipe several times in a single day. It doesn't take long at all for it to cool sufficiently (without refrigeration). I always run a soft, absorbent pipe cleaner through from the tip as far as down the stem as it will go before snagging and let it sit there a few...

    Question about Peterson pipes??

Welcome to the forum. I only wish my wife would ask such pipe-friendly questions. I have a Rocky (bulldog) and it has become one of my favorites. I'm sure your man would love it.

    Gurgling

I GENTLY tap the tip against my heel a few times until the offending liquid appears. Then wipe the tip on my sock and keep on puffing. It's just a habit I've developed and it seems to work fine.

    Giving Dr. Grabow a Chance

Great history on the iconic Dr. Graybow. I have a well-cared-for Dr. Graybow (35 years of age). It provides a good smoke but, as I remember, it did require some breaking in and treatment with alcohol and olive oil in its early days of service. I never thought of the pipe as a low cost Dunhill...

    Spreading Interest In Pipe Smoking

I speak often about this wonderful site. It serves us all by crating a strong sense of community without becoming elitist in the slightest...much like pipe smokers themselves.

    This Isn’t Your Grandfather’s Pipe

I was part of the 1970s peak in pipe smoking and am proud to be among this latest generation of young advocates. Great article, Kevin.

    Spreading Interest In Pipe Smoking

I started smoking a pipe many years ago and can see a definite increase in interest as I puff outside my office during the week. I've attemptd to convert several cigarette smokers in recent years and found them quite receptive. The most common reasons for not smoking a pipe I hear are that it's...

    Pipe Recommendation Please

Notice all the references to Peterson and Savinelli in the responses offered thus far. There is a reason for this. Whether from Dublin or Milan, these companies represent centuries of skilled craftsmanship at a reasonable price. I own several of each and tell you by first hand experience that...

    Bulk or tins?

By far, I purchase most of my tobacco in bulk from a local shop. I pick up a tin once in a while, even though it's more expensive, to add variety.
