    Pipe as a Movie Prop

If your project requires an actor to smoke a pipe it's really hard for me imagine an actor who won't do some research and make a few sacrifices for that part. A professional actor wouldn't hesitate, I would think, to actually smoke a pipe if it were part of the character. I say get that guy off...

    Doodling Around

What may be more amazing is the amount of money people were willing to pay for this when it first came out. From a pipe history point of view, The Doodler has an interesting story and pedigree. The one I have here was made by the National Briar Pipe Company around 1963 for Tracy Mincer just...

    Book suggestions

I just finished the complete works of Poe and enjoyed (most of) it. How about trying Jules Verne? I'm reading Around the World in 80 Days now. Also try, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. (And everything else Sherlock.)

    Doodling Around

Thanks Fnord, I think I will keep that Doodler on the sidelines for now. It's going to sit right next to my Doodler Jr. for awhile. Speaking of stars, my next project is a three star "Pipe by Lee". I'll search for what that little thing is all about and work on it tomorrow.

    Doodling Around

I know several forum members have Doodler pipes. This one is my second one which I just finished doing a refurb on tonight. For a big pipe it feels pretty good in the hand and is comfortable to clench.

The First Bug of The Season!

Yeah, the cold and flu season is nigh 'pon us. Bad times for me because all of our part time and on-call people are working full time hours. No replacements. Sure would be nice to have those full time slots restored that were taken away during the downturn. I'll skip the line of salt up my...

    Is taste overrated?

I smoked Captain Black for years and as others have said, it is very mild. Once you smoke a higher quality aromatic you will find it's like you've been eating Big Macs all this time when you could have had char broiled steak.

Could some pal help me verify the authenticity of this Peterson?

I'm no expert, but that isn't exactly a choice cut of briar, is it? That fill or flaw on the rim would be a deal breaker for me if that were a new pipe. Is that typical for quality for that line?

My Wife Wanted To Post This Picture...

Think I'll go out and the back patio and do the same except my tamper will start out as a big stick and end up a small stick.

Gut Punch - Insurance - "Use of any tobacco product."

Welcome to my world. I'm lucky to be retiring in 10 months and will be able to get away from my ever so helpful insurance "health counselor" who knows nothing other what the script in front of her tells her to say. Never in my 35 years of work history have so many people been involved in my...

    Doctor Grabow Freehand

fnord wrote: I'll second that advice. I have two Mastersons and an Alpha sitter. I'd pick them up for a smoke before the Dr Grabow freehand.

    Project a Success

You are good! I admire guys who are handy. If it were me doing that, right about now I'd be buried under the rubble of what used to be my house.

    My New (Old) Opera Pipe

huntertrw, thanks very much for that information! Could you guess a date range for my pipe based on how long those business connections lasted? I can't imagine it could be any earlier than the 1940's or so, especially considering the pipe is still in the condition I received it. I now see on the...

    My New (Old) Opera Pipe

huntertrw, I've always assumed it was a Yello-Bole but the only thing stamped on the briar is "Featherweight". I haven't been able to find it in any online catalogs.

    My New (Old) Opera Pipe

I have an opera pipe but have never smoked it, so no ability to comment there. Maybe I'll try it this weekend. From what I've read, the pocket pipes of this nature were originally called "au pair" pipes. I don't know what to think of that since nannies and other servants were probably not part...

    Need Help Identifying My Pipe

I read this thread with interest then realized I had something like it buried deep down in my collection. Here's my "Moscow"pipe. It's unsmoked, but I never did anything with it because the tobacco chamber is too small for my liking. This weekend I'll probably give it a cleaning and waxing and...

Just got my DR GRABOW OMEGA in the mail ( pic's)

I think you will be happy with that Omega. Be sure to check ebay for new listings of older Grabows. I've never been disappointed by them.

I Hit The Pipe Mother Load (Huge Pic Hoard)

I also have to say your father in law is the greatest! If that happened to me it would make 35 years of marriage worth it all. :D

If you like CS Lewis you make also like Dinesh D'Souza. I enjoyed God Forsaken It was obvious that Lewis has a lot great influence on D'Souza.
