Is it My Speed or My Pipe?

Before getting down on your pipe or tobacco, I'd just suggest it's just because you're a new smoker. My advice would be to wait until your tongue feels better, and then put a pipe's worth of tobacco out on a peice of paper until it is really dry, almost crispy. This will make the pipe very...

    How Many Open Tins??

I've found keeping opened tins inside resealable containers keeps them smokeable for a very long time, so at various times I have had huge numbers of them opened up. That said, I tend to keep 5-6 open at a time, just because I like to focus and really get to know a blend before moving on to...

    Cigar Tobacco in a Pipe?

I tried it once with a cigar that was left out of the humidor too long and got dried out. It was acrid and harsh, but I'm guessing it would have been that way no matter how it was smoked, given its crispy nature.

    Enough Cake.

I'm with chopz. I have never reamed a pipe, just kind of scrape down the top part of the cake when it starts to build up. Another trick to keep the cake thin and hard is to scrape it down with a cut up scotch brite pad after every smoke (after it is well broken in).

    Question about finishing a bowl....

Another thing to try would be the "air pocket" method of packing your bowl. Might be worth experimenting with... I know when I was starting out, it helped to try this method versus struggle with the right puffing pace using other packing methods.

    Am I Crazy

My solution to the same problem is to wear a vest or jacket (like those used for fly fishing or army surplus) over the top of a t-shirt and boxers. Vest pockets are easier to get into while seated, versus pants/shorts/skivvies pockets. A direct answer to your question: yes, you are crazy...
